sippo Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I loved trying new foods. What's the strangest thing you've eaten? For me - Ants, Scorpion, Octopus, Shark, Crocodile, Wild Boar. Love Ostrich aswell. I want to get me some of http://www.edible.com/shop/carnivore/reindeer%20pate/ aswell. Yum!
GREED Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) Kangaroo. Tastes like beef, but chewy. Edited November 25, 2010 by GREED tastes like beef, not beer!

FN-GM Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Kangaroo. Tastes like beef, but chewy. oh me as well, but i didnt find it chewy. Also had a try of Frogs legs and snails.
sippo Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 Kanagaroo is alright, I found it a bit dull to be honest.
CESIL Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I ate several things in Hong Kong that my hosts wouldn't identify...whatever they were they were very tasty! The only thing I refused to eat was served in a large black cauldron in black bubbling liquid...It was when the locals poked it, grunted something and then ignored it that I decided to pass
GREED Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 oh me as well, but i didnt find it chewy. Also had a try of Frogs legs and snails. Problem was my friend to bbq-ed it cooked it blue so was still hopping on my plate at the time.
NikChillin Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 oh me as well, but i didnt find it chewy. Also had a try of Frogs legs and snails. Frogs legs taste like chicken too, flies... while riding moped with visor open.. ugh! GAG! 1
Dos_Box Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) Whatever it was they served us on the opening night party at the Ruckus Big Dogs conf in Spain. There are no words to describe how vile some of it was. Well, there is a couple of words. Fishmongers counter. Edited November 25, 2010 by Dos_Box
LiamH Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Curried sheep brains.... Tasted okay with the spices but had the consistency of scrambled egg. Dares a dare
laserblazer Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I was going to buy some venison but it was a little dear. 3
ICT_GUY Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Octopus is not strange, its a regular friday night snack in my house.
GREED Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I was going to buy some venison but it was a little dear. Bad! Although had that in Egypt just because it was on offer, terrible consistancy and texture
apeo Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I always say im willing to try something atleast once but i think of anything.. how about turtle, turtle eggs, flying fox (bat)..
GREED Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 KFC Chicken... ...and I know how they make it and what goes into it! ....eeeuuuuuuuuhhhhhh!
tech_guy Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I've eaten monkey meat in Northern Thailand. I was a guest with the Karen tribes-people on the Burmese border and it would have been rude to refuse.
featured_spectre Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Was in China a few years ago...I have eaten the following (bare in mind I was only told when I got back to the UK what I had eaten) Snake Fire ant larvae Pigs Uterus Ox testicles Goats tongue Lizard Porcupine Pigs cheeks Snails Sea Urchin Puffer fish Rat Horse and finally Saego (Part of a tree that looks like wall paper paste but is actually quite nice). I was surprised to find how tasty it all was...
solitaire89 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Venison isn't odd! That's nice! (when I can afford to get it...) I don't think it's odd, but, as Lab tech I often have to get liver, kidney and hearts from tesco for the kids to dissect. Any left over get taken home and eaten, much to the disgust of the kids. They're especially squeamish about the hearts...
teejay Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 KFC Chicken... ...and I know how they make it and what goes into it! ....eeeuuuuuuuuhhhhhh! Yeah, it's called chicken ;-) Worked in the kitchens for KFC during my students days many many years ago and the ones I worked in were very good and kept the kitchens run very well. Can't say it's the same in all of them as they're a franchise operation but they do all get randomly inspected from head office. It's the little one man band places you really need to be careful of unless you know they have good rep. Soo, weird stuff I've eaten: horse steaks, Bretton Fricase (don't ever be tempted, there are things floating in it you really don't want to see again in your life)
GREED Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Yeah, it's called chicken ;-) Which did you work at then, coz I am sure it isn't in my neighbourhood!!!

timzim Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 ...and finally Saego (Part of a tree that looks like wall paper paste but is actually quite nice) That would be the same as sago then - we used to have it for pudding every week when I was a nipper. Bit like tapioca but not. Certainly not a strange thing to eat...although maybe it is now? I had raw zebra fillet with garlic once - very nice, if a little chewy. Worst thing I've ever tried is Mopane Worms, which are large, dried, orange & black caterpillars. They taste like your old swimming towel smells when you've left it in a plastic bag for a week, i.e. disgusting.
Haptic Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Pleased to see I’m not the only one with a peculiar penchants for culinary exploration! Aside from the moderately usual- Boar, Ostrich, Kangaroo, Goat, I've tried a few off the wall (in some cases literally!): Chocolate Fire ants (IWoOT.com special) Curried Meal Worms Reindeer Pate (not as good as you'd hope I’m afraid to say) mini Scorpion. Think that’s about it... though my brother has said he's got something special and edible for me for Xmas, what worried me was he said this after seeing the rancid canned Herring on Q.I the other night...
