sahmeepee Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Thanks for the heads-up! Can anyone track down a guide to what's new in version 3?
steve Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Installed it on a couple of laptops for the more advanced users to try. Main advantage is its available as an msi Other little features: Multi monitor support, proxy setup for online resources, dashboad, powerpoint converter.
plexer Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 Shame I registered on wednesday and still haven't received the link to download it. Ben
nawbus Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Shame I registered on wednesday and still haven't received the link to download it. Ben I had that problem, but I sent an email to the address given on the page after registration and they sent me a copy of the mail I should have received!
plexer Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 I just reregistered but still no link. I don't have that email address to hand could you let me know what it is please? Thanks, Ben
Zoom7000 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Installed it on a couple of laptops for the more advanced users to try. Main advantage is its available as an msi Other little features: Multi monitor support, proxy setup for online resources, dashboad, powerpoint converter. Unfortunately it's not a TRUE msi. They have used a custom dialog in the installer for the Product Key. The true msi is for sale at a cost of £100 when I called Promethean support! I'll create one myself thank you very much! However, a work around the problem is as follows: Before you install AS3. Install the AS2 using the msi installer. Once you have started ActivStudio and put in your Licence Details, browse to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ACTIV Software\ACTIVstudio 2" and copy the as2pe.dat file. Thereafter install AS3. I created a script to install AS3: xcopy "\\Server\Share\as2pe.dat" "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ACTIV Software\ACTIVstudio 2" /y "\\Server\Share\ACTIVstudio Professional Edition.msi" /qb "\\Server\Share\ActivstudioPE3_v3.0.56_setup.exe" /s /v/qb If you are running the script on a fresh machine, you will need to add the following line to the top of your script: mkdir "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ACTIV Software\ACTIVstudio 2" I dunno much about .MST Transforms, however I think creating an .MST Transforms may also work to get around the problem.
nawbus Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I just reregistered but still no link. I don't have that email address to hand could you let me know what it is please? Thanks, Ben Try - [email protected] You'll need to quote the serial number you registerd with.
plexer Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 Cheers. Regarding the information on the msi only being available for £100 I think that is disgusting and Promethean should do more to support it's loyal overworked School techies. I haven't seen the promethean presence around here lately so wonder what Dan thinks about this situation? Ben
bishopsgarthstockton Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 installed on a whiteboard machine for now before i send it out to the remaining 38 whiteboard machines. there is also a new resource cd that you can ask for to be sent out FREE of charge.

I haven't seen the promethean presence around here lately so wonder what Dan thinks about this situation? Ben Yes, I would like to know too. I don't understand why they can't just offer the Install as an .msi in the first place! Anyway, that information was given by someone at the Technical Support hotline. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else at Promethean turned around and said it's a load of rubbish!
plexer Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 I would of thought the £100 version may be an RM CC3 package but I could be wrong when I hear back I'll let you know. Ben
Zoom7000 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I would of thought the £100 version may be an RM CC3 package but I could be wrong when I hear back I'll let you know. BenWell, I specifically specified an MSI version, however, please do let us know.
plexer Posted February 6, 2007 Author Posted February 6, 2007 I sent Dan Turner a PM and he tells me he has now left Promethean which is a shame as I thought it was good to have these inroads into suppliers. He has given me a contact to email so I'll see how it goes. Ben
plexer Posted February 6, 2007 Author Posted February 6, 2007 The contact at Promethean tells me that there is to be a proper msi version released on cd and that there may be a small charge for the cd. As I get more info I'll post it. Ben
tosca925 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 We pay enough for the bloody kit, you'd think they let us have a msi install for their updated software. Well, i suppose if they make it awkward for us then we all start favouring boards and software that don't....... :-)
john Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Well, i suppose if they make it awkward for us then we all start favouring boards and software that don't....... :-) You sound like a man after my own heart Smart Technologies FTW
Zoom7000 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 We pay enough for the bloody kit, you'd think they let us have a msi install for their updated software. Well, i suppose if they make it awkward for us then we all start favouring boards and software that don't....... :-) The trouble is that Promethean have become so big, and are going the route that RM went... Complacency! What I don't understand is why they can't just make the Installation an msi in the first place. That way we won't have to cry out for one!
