Computer settings taking an age to apply on some workstations

I'm running into problems with out Windows Server 2003 / XP Pro set up currently in that a few workstations are taking something like 2 minutes extra to apply the computer settings stage of log on.

 

I have sat at identical workstations and run Autoruns and done a bit of clearing from the info it threw up but still the slowness persists. Not using either mandatory or roaming profiles and using users log ons who have already worked on the workstations.

 

Any suggestion where to look next?

Have you had a look at DNS to make sure it is working properley I have had a similar issue before due to DNS not working corectley

Check out this link and see if that can help you. There is a workaround you can try quickly to see if you have the problem which is causing a delay.

I always used to run into this problem. I found it to be large roaming profiles causing the problem, leading to implementing a 6 month clearing out policy of all roaming profiles.

Have you recently installed the .NET Framework V4?

 

We've seen PC's take a long time on applying the computer settings for a number of boots after the install.

 

Best way to find out is run the ngen command and force the framework to compile, the following command will do this.

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ngen.exe executequeueditems

I think it's 3 out of 33 workstations in the Suite, DNS doesn't seem to be an issue.

 

Your Linky and workaround applied on one workstation now Penfold to see if it helps.

 

Don't have roming profiles so it's not that Graham.

 

Net Framework 4 not let loose here yet, so I'm hoping that Penfold's workaround does the trick.
