ICT_GUY Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Ive torn almost the entire muscle from my shoulder blade and spine (or there abouts) 8 months it took to even get anywhere near back to normal, and I still get issues now if I sleep/stretch/move funny and its been easily 10 years I have injurries that play up from 20 years ago, my left shoulder is giving me gip at the moment. My back is just a warzone.
witch Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 It's the right leg and I have definitely torn the calf muscle, towards the top. It isn't as bad as last time I did it, 7 years ago, and much less bad than when I tore my thigh muscle - also in an exercise class - the nasty snapping noise was so loud that the girl next to me went green and nearly fainted as she thought I had snapped my leg! I am icing it for 10mins, then leaving off, then icing again. I have rung my physio and she says that you shouldn't massage a torn muscle (only a pulled one) until it has nearly healed otherwise you can cause more bleeding and damage. As I said, difficult to do the hot compress thing as I am here on my own - I will try and do it later when mrwITch is home to help
tech_guy Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 What you need are some good painkillers. There's no need to put up with the pain. Your GP should be able to sort you out over the phone and get a prescription sorted for you for your hubby to collect. I mangled my left arm last year lifting something that was too heavy and I couldn't have coped without the pain relief.
shreevie Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 The hot/cold gel bandages are pretty useful instead of packs of frozen veg.
elsiegee40 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Ow! Ow! OWWWW! I feel your pain witch Some good advice regarding RICE and hot and cold packs... When I was signed off after the operations on my back, boredom was my worst enemy. I wasn't allowed to do anything, I couldn't sit for longer than 5 minutes and day-time telly is awful unless you've got 'flu. I could however kneel and ended up starting to research my family tree online whilst knelt at my PC! You may need to find a similar online project whilst laid up. Hope you're feeling better soon, but don't try to do too much too quickly!
Guest TheLibrarian Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) You have to love karma. @RingOfFlame If you are a believer in Karma then I can only imagine you like living life dangerously... @Witch Take it easy Witch, maybe you can Google how to treat sports injuries? Probably best not to Google image search though. Edited October 7, 2010 by TheLibrarian
TheRedGuy Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) You have to love karma. I do not understand. I do however hope Witch can rest up and recover quickly! Take it easy. Edited October 7, 2010 by TheRedGuy Spooling mistook :)
witch Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 Well, I have sat here all day and I am SO bored. I have been sorting photos etc but I CANNOT STAND IT! Those of you who know me will know that I don't sit down much, I am the sort who relaxes by doing something and now I can't. Really looking forward to tomorrow: I will be sorting out my new diary for next year and starting this years Christmas list - woohoo. Still, thanks for all your kind thoughts. P'raps I'll be better tomorrow
RingOfFlame Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Remember we ask all members to be nice to each other and be kind to each other that wasn't really called for but laughing at another member about it is ok?
michael2k6 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 back on topic, Witch, i hope you feel better soon. Make sure you make MrWtich feel guilty for not being at your beck and call too. I'm sure that he doesn't deserve that but you're ill so surely you can get away with it. Here's hoping you feel better.
elsiegee40 Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Just a thought... the edugeek hobnobs are zero calorie... * passes the whole virtual crate to witch * That should help!
witch Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Hmmm...maybe, but I think there is meat in there and I am a vegetarian
Haptic Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Witch, sorry to hear of your mishap, hope you have a speedy recovery- from a lot of experience of ruining my body (only just out of plaster from a snapped thumb!), I’d recommend get it up on a chair and after swelling goes down try some toe extensions. All the best, Mark
tech_guy Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I'm intrigued....how did you snap your thumb or shouldn't I be that curious?
Andrew_C Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I did the same walking across the platform at Waterloo. My doc stayed on late for me to see him, and in the end said, "RICE" and Ibuprofen, for the pain and as a anti-inflammatory.
witch Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Still sat here - just had a hobble about and it hurts now. Not too bad though - weirdly the bruising looks like two fingerprint bruises on the back of my calf rather than a big round bruise. Watching 'Ghost Writer' quite good but not really catching my attention - feels odd to be watching a film in the day time. * Mark - how DID you snap your thumb?
Haptic Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 well I was playing rugby, 1st preseason game and it turned out the top of someone’s head was rather hard and snapped a metacarpal and another bone whilst clearing them out; thought it was bruised until it trebled in size and started throbbing! Upshot was my one handed typing became quite speedy but I wouldn't recommend it. Mark
tazz Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Get well soon Witch, I know how frustrating it is when you can't exercise due to injury. What was the class?
witch Posted October 10, 2010 Author Posted October 10, 2010 Get well soon Witch, I know how frustrating it is when you can't exercise due to injury. What was the class? It was good old fashioned aerobics which I love because of the dancy element and the fact that this takes place in a proper sports hall so there is plenty of space and lots of movement. I hate classes in little studios where you can only take a couple of paces each way - yuck! This class moves you right across the long side of the sports hall. I put a lot into it and I have very long limbs so in smaller spaces I am liable to smack someone by mistake! Hobbled all around UWE yesterday with my daughter - feels a bit better. Could go to work except I can't get there - although I might try driving in a couple of days
