usb stick not recognised? please insert a disk into drive

Hi guys our heads usb suddently refused to work. when inserted its showing as a Disk. when open it it says "please inset a disk tn to drive"

 

please help, she needs her all work from there.

It sound like the usb stick or and usb port of broken. Check the port and if thats of insert the usb stick,. Have a look in computer management if the computer sees the usb drive, if it does try a chkdisk or some of the data recovery software for USB drives. Now a lot of the time the circuits in the usb drive get broken by hanging say keys on them. Move the from side to side and see if the computer sees it and can access the data. If it does get the data off if it does not its dead.

yes i did try differnt computers and different usb ports.

had this before a few times and it was a dead stick , obviously the teacher in question has a backup and hasnt relied on just the usb stick ??

so if I undertood right your usb stick is not recognised on other PCs too? Then unfortunately it is broken, I guess (usb stick I mean)

try it on a linux or mac pc; i've had luck accessing usb sticks with that error before in ubuntu and os x

It could be that the connections have come loose on the solder joints usually re-soldering them carefully fixes this.

Apart from that Data recovery experts, which are expensive but usually very good as a last resort, if the HT has backed up his data stick then no worries eh!

You are right bossman,

its a loose connection, i gave bit of press on the top and re-soldered, now working, i got the details back, transfered to new usb.

It's not Volume encrypted is it?

 

I've come across USB drives with full volume encryption, that when inserted into a workstation, that doesn't have the encryption software, the USB drive shows up as needing formatting. (Which is rather stupid)
