Protect certain folders from change

Hi all, I am setting up a lab with windows7 machines and I want to add a little protection to certain folders/files. I have Centurion to restore the machines back to pristine state once they are restarted which is great.

 

What I want to do is install a link to the server for a testing package the students will use with teacher directions. No AD, no Samba in place, each machine is on their own.

I want to use both NWEA MAP and ExamView Test Player which require a link to the app on the server and a login to use. Now my issue that these folders need to have write access to save the text score data. Once kids figure they can right click and find the server path they could potentially start messing up files on the server.

 

Does anyone have a way to prevent right click, or protect certain desktop icons/folders?

 

It just dawned on me that the best solution may be to create another user on the machine that is only available for testing. Then when a teacher wants to use those programs we will log into those accounts only (which will be passwd prot and hidden from login screen). Is this the best practice?

You should be able to disable right click in the local security policy using group policy editor

Can I disable right click on certain icons? Won't the users just be able to go into the folders and find what they are looking for? I think a separate account is the best bet.
