FN-GM Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) Hi, We have an IWB with a problem. I draw a stright line accross the board and the pen gones all over the show. I am using the latest Active Inspire Software. Someone suggested an firmware update. Does anyone know how to actually do that. I could not find it on the Promethean site. cmssbrie Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Hi there, There is an article on the KB about performing a firmware update with the latest Promethean driver (ActivManager). The article is here, but if your board firmware is not 3.xx, then don't attempt to do it - it simply won't work. http://uk.prometheankb.com/article.aspx?article=300827&p=10121 BTW, this is done completely at your own risk! - if you are in any doubt whatsoever, give our Tech Support team a call for further assistance! If you decide to give it a try, and it still doesn;t work, you'd probably need to give them a call anyway, with the serial number of the board, so they can advise what else you can try. Good luck! 1
cmssbrie Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 It's a local rate call I think - the telephone number is...0844 855 2201 - but other than that, to my knowledge, yeah, it's free. (At this very moment in time, they are actually all in a training session until about 3pm - so you won't get anyone answering the phone until then)
bossman Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 @FN-GM: Also it could be static, we have found that using ferrite rings on both power and usb connections to the boards it cuts out any static which impacts the IWBs. 1
FN-GM Posted September 10, 2010 Author Report Posted September 10, 2010 I updated the firmware and it made no change. whats a ferrite ring? Thanks
witch Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Did you fix this? I have the same issue and cannot solve it!
CESIL Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Check that nothing electrical has been placed too near the board. I had one do this after a teacher put the power block for her laptop on the desk behind the computer against the edge of the board...
plexer Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Lots of ferrite rings available from Maplin: Ferrite Rings and Beads : Ferrites : Maplin Used to cut down interference. Ben

witch Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Nothing in the way that I can see - the board and laptop have been fine for two years!
bossman Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Promethean IWBs tend to react to heavy static charges which influence the way the X and Y co-ordinates are calculated when the movement of the pen is detected. Static can build up on the boards surface by all manner of things even down to the electric supply not being properly earthed. We have been highly successful with this technique: Just fit one of these to the very ends of the power input to the board. Let me know how you get on. BTW we have 45 of these boards and some are over 7 years old.
FN-GM Posted October 14, 2010 Author Report Posted October 14, 2010 I unplugged totally on all cables at both ends it left it over night. In the morning it worked
