Little-Miss Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I've come in to find curricsvr3 (not DC) beeping away to itself. Now the beep is really odd, no pattern to it all! I've rebooted but that didnt throw up any errors that were glaringly obvious. Just did its thing and loaded back into windows. It is low on space, do servers beep in that situation?!
pete Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Raid controller complaining of a failed disk? Any lights on the disk bays that are different in colour to the other bays? Failed power supply? (if you have redundant psus) Overheating? Stuck key on the KVM? 1
stevenlong1985 Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 i had the same problem a while back on the admin-svr which was a Raid controller complaining of a faulty Drive, Just double check the hard drives, is it SCIS drives? you'll just need a new Hard drive then 1

Little-Miss Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) Ok, after lots of cursing and fist shaking it turns out 0 was degraded. So i've removed it and replaced it with another one that previous guy had tried to install, only to find that failed too. So i've got two dodgy drives or something more serious (guy tried to charge me for that drive too!!). Out of curiosity, the "New" drive is currently rebuilding but it only got to 1% after 5 minutes....is that normal or a sign of a definately dodgy drive? How do i turn of that god forsaken beeping!! Luckily enough, as i mentioned in another post, the Admin server of the same make and model is being replaced as we speak, so if that doesnt work i could try one from there. Tech_guy...you really dont want to know! lol (Would like to point out it was here way before me!) Starts with E ends in X... Edited August 24, 2010 by Little-Miss
leco Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Can you get into the RAID console? The alarm can be turned off from there - I had to do it when my Master DC overheated. As for re-build time on a RAID - yes it can and does take a long time, depending on the size of your disks. Mine are quite large and it took all day. 1

Butuz Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Yep be patient with it 1% after 5 mins sounds normal to me! Make sure you don't get hasty/impatient and start ripping in and out different drives or you will be in trouble! Using the raid bios console will be best as its a good idea and much faster not to have the server being used whilst the array rebuilds. Butuz 1

SYNACK Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Another thing to check is whether the drives themselves are still under warrenty. Server grade drives usually have a manufacturers warrenty of minimum five years, with the serial number and product number it should be quite quick to check on the HD vendors site, here's Seagates: Warranty Validation Depending on the model and age you may even get a completely new and bigger drive out of it, if both broken ones happen to still be under warrenty this could mean a free upgrade of the set. 1

Some manufacturers have their own software to install to check that sort of thing.

SHimmer45 Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 i wouldnt mind betting that its an Intel/LSI RAID card, both should have web utilities which show you information and allow execution of commands from that. id be inclined to pop the case off and have a look and the card itself if its a seperate card. do you still have the driver software for the server as the tools for it will be on one of those. *the intel RAID tools are on their website for download 1
