I'm having a bit of a problem with Staff laptops and Word 2010.

We've just imaged all the laptops to Windows 7 and Office 2010 but can't get Word to play ball.

Everything works fine while the user is logged on to the network but when off the network (i.e. when a user is at home) Word crashes citing problems with the Normal.dot.

I think it is down to the staffs roaming profiles and where the Normal.dot file is stored. I think Word is looking for it on the servers where the profile is stored (in AppData) and when not connected it throws up an error.

I've tried redirecting AppData to the local userprofile location but that hasn't worked.

Does anyone have any ideas? I cant really give out the newly imaged laptops until this is fixed!

Cheers

James

EDIT: nevermind, I managed to fix it by configuring Offline Files correctly.

How have you configure your offline Files?

Also experiencing this issue. 64-bit Windows 7 with 32-bit Office 2010. Word balks every time any document is opened and closed. Says it can't modify the Normal.dot file located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14"

User is configured to use roaming profiles and redirected folders. I'd expect it to try to save Normal.dot to the user's profile on the share...

I have seen a similar issue to this before but this was with adobe programs.

I had to make the My Settings Folder in the users home directory available offline.

Hope this helps :)
