Anywhere I can download SQL Server 2005 Standard 64 bit media? (except from MS VLSC)

Hi all,

We have purchased a new MIS server which has Server 2008 R2 standard. We want to keep it 64 bit but unfortunately we don't have the SQL Standard 2005 64 bit media, only the 32 bit version. I have ordered from Phoenix software nearly 3 weeks ago but is still yet to arrive. It should be coming Wed but that is my last day for a while and I really want to wrap this server up before I go on holiday on Thu.

You use to be able to download the 180 day trial version from Microsoft but this now just diverts you to SQL 2008.

Is there anywhere I can download it (legally)...even this tial version? We can't use MS VLSC.

Thanks very much in advance for any help that can be ofered.

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

I'm only in until Wed and it's only me in the school so can't really order anything now and even if I did, by the time it arrived, probably wouldn't have time to finish the server install.

Cheers.

Hi,

We are currently licensed for 2005 and as it's supported main stream until 12/2011 and extended until 12/2016, would rather just stick with this....especially as it looks like Serco is going to be web based in the pretty near future.

Never mind, Can't be helped...I should have thought about not having the 64 bit media.

Just saw you referenced Serco in that last post, are you using Facility as your MIS? If so you do know that its all unsupported on 2008 R2 and there is some issues in 10.1 on that OS at present (which will be addressed in a future release of the software in-line with there change to supporting 2008 R2).

You can have the SQL on 64bit on Server 2008 R2, but Facility and E-Portal need to be on 32bit servers on 2008.

Damn!...thanks for letting me know though John. I thought it wasn't officially supported yet but would work. It was 64 bit on Server 2008 Standard that would work but is not officially supported until November.

Oh well....lucky I didn't do the job earlier!

Cheers.

I think its ePortal that has the biggest issues with it from what I gather, but as I've just migrated Serco onto a new server and had discussions with them about what is and isn't supported they lead me to very very strongly avoid R2 for now. As you have said November (10.2) is going to be, fingers crossed, R2 sorted which will be great news and then you can move over then. With something like the MIS I wouldn't want to run it on unsupported, or against there very strongest advice to avoid it.
