Exchange 2007 SP3

Hi there,

 

I've just looked at our exchange server and it's running 2007 SP1 on 2008 Svr. I've noticed that the current version is SP3.

 

So I've downloaded SP3..... It says on the release notes that SP3 includes all SP2 so I only need to do one upgrade, but it also mentions a schema update and uninstalling interim updates. I found out from a google search that I have no interm updates only rollups.

 

Now, I have a file downloaded E2K7SP3EN64.exe

 

Is the process?:

 

run E2K7SP3EN64.exe /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions

then rerun normally and follow the prompts.

 

or is E2K7SP3EN64.exe just a self extractor? then I have to run extractedfolder\setup.exe /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions

 

or is it OK just to run the file and let it do the schema update as one of the steps? - I don't remember exchange 2003 SPs release notes being this vague:doh:

Do you need to do the Prepare Schema again on an existing installation?

 

Only thing thats caught me out in the past with the security rollups is making sure I disable the BackUp Exec Remote Agent first; caused the installation to hang. I notice in the Release Notes that it says you should disable any services first that integrate with exchange.

Did the SP3 upgrade a few days after SP3 was released.....Just ran the setup and bish bash bosh...it all worked straight out of the setup, I didnt do the /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions

I've got this to do. Be nice to know the definitive answer on the schema switch.

Re. that legacy switch MS say: "If you have any computers in your organization running Exchange Server 2003 or Exchange 2000 Server "

 

I don't have any of those, there's just the Exchange 2007 box, so I'm ignoring it unless 2007 Setup (which tends to know what it wants) tells me I have to do it.

Hi,

 

I successfully upgraded, but with a few issues along the way.

 

E2K7SP3EN64.exe is a self extractor. - No problem there

 

I stopped backup exec service and mcafee groupshield from services.msc - to stop them interfering

 

I then ran the setup, as others have done (ignoring the switch) It did a readiness check and failed because a restart was pending.

 

So I rebooted the server, stopped the services again then re-ran setup

This time I got an error 'dllhost' () process (ID 3692) has open files at the readiness check. This stumped me a bit because I had already stopped the third party services.

Anyway, I managed to find the process 3692 by adding the PID column to task manager processes (view, select column, tick PID). It turned out to be GSH - mcafee groupshield.

 

This confused me because I had already stopped the groupshield service, I double checked and it was definitely stopped. So I searched on google and found there is a COM+ service. I had to get to it from Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Component Services, COM+ Applications. Select GSH User Junk Folder Router then right click and choose shutdown.

 

Then I ran setup again and this time it was happy. It did the schema update itself as part of the process, although it took 40 minutes to complete the upgrade, of which 17 mins were the schema change step.

 

I rebooted the server again afterwards to reset the services.

 

No wonder it wasn't a Windows update. :-)

Am I right in saying that SP3 only works if you have 2008 R2 installed?

No you're not - I've installed E2K7 SP3 on Server 2008, have no reason whatsoever to believe it won't work on a 2003 x64 E2K7.

Just ran the upgrade on our box.

 

Took 47 minutes in total complete with no errors.

 

Running on our 2008 Server 64Bit Standard (not R2), just had to install the Microsoft Installer Service 4.5 before hand, and stopped the BackUp Exec Remote Agent first. Did NOT do any Schema switch.

 

Seem to take an age 'Removing Files' which is always a worrying statement! ;-)

Since the SP3 update we now have a problem with direct file access using the documents feature of OWA. When files are accessed via this method a blank page is displayed. Does anyone else have this problem?

 

A Google search led me to You Had Me At EHLO... : Exchange 2007 SP3 and OWA S/MIME Version Mismatch comments, where others have the same problem. Looks like I'll have to wait for a patch.

Hi,

 

When I go to install Ex2K7 SP3 I get a blank white window. I am unable to progress to the installation as I have no links visible. I have installed this many times on other clients without a hitch. It is only a couple of client servers that I cannot run this on. Has anyone else seen this error. This is on SBS 2008.

Cptn_Smooth, did you ever fix your blank screen when running the SP3 for Exchange 2007 update on SBS2008?

 

I have the same/similar issue. A weird screen with right bottom corner a botton, and some pictures which not show up.

 

No clue why this is happening.

I am also having the white screen issue. Anyone find a fix for it?

I had the same issue, what I did was run the update under unattended mode. That did the trick for me. I had to do that for all the SP's for Exchange. Not sure what got messed up, but unattended mode did the trick for me.
