Providing you set appropriate privacy settings on Facebook before the various randoms you met there start tagging you in photos!

 

I'm just back from a week in Majorca on my own and it was fine. It's the second time I've been there on my own, and I did feel a lot more confident - partly because it was the second time, and partly because I've been learning Spanish - although the majority of staff in bars, restaurants and shops can speak English, having a bit of the lingo certainly helps when you're flying solo.

 

One bit of advice - consider going All Inclusive, which is a lot less hassle and saves the awkward "table for one" moments! The food where I was was perfectly acceptable.

I've just spent 3 days in northern France and Belgium with my bro' and our respective daughters. We did Verdun and Ypres... My good god; it was far and away more shocking than Normandy. In the Langemark German cemetery there is a 5m square plot, and if my German hasn't totally failed, it contains the remains of 25,000 young men.

 

 

Maybe it really isn't such a good idea to do the battle fields on your own. It could be really very depressing.

To an extent, I would disagree with this part, and here's why.............

 

Wherever you choose to go, you need to be getting yourself out there. One of the best ways is to be having a bite to eat in a bar. As people approach to chat, you can either allow them to sit with you, or explain that you're eating and like to do so alone. I'd guarantee that you'd find cheap food, good bars and lots of fun!

 

However, I would also like to make it clear that this IS only MY opinion!!!

Table for one moments are only made awkward by the staff in places in my experience. I always say "table for one" and then they'll say something like "really? no date?" which then makes you feel like a plonker, just remember that it's all them and not you and it'll be ok
