I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Fly is Dave.

Nope, I thought it was but Nick told me he didn't know either.

@mattx: Let me be the first to say welcome back [Am I the first?]

I would say the second - I got a nice big Hello from Little Miss earlier. Many thanks DaveP - appreciate it.

@ mattx - where did you go to - anyway welcome back :)

lol @ marty mcfly and how do you get a photo that large without that fly buzzin off

I was suspended for two weeks [ yes like being at school sometimes ] - photo was taken with my new camera which amazingly enough the lens bundled with it is quite good - that's how I got close without it buzzing off.

Typical - I didn't even know or notice - welcome back from suspension.

Ahh, if we have people that know about flies on here...

I have an "infestation" of small flies that orbit around in the middle of the living room at home. I spray them, than 30 mins later they are back. Happens every summer. Any clues as to the type, or why they just fly around and around in the middle of the room? The first two have just appeared at 8:30 in the morning. By the time I'm home there will be 10-15.

While not claiming to be an expert in this topic I have seen flies do this where there is a problem with drainage nearby [broken/cracked sewer pipe, blocked drain] Having said that I am sure that this behaviour is not uncommon.

We have the same, there is likely something dead or rotting nearby, or as suggested bad drainage. In the summer you will get them if you dont empty your kitchen bin more than once every couple of days. We get them as there is a dead pigeon trapped under our balcony, and pigeon poo all over it. For some reason they like to come inside during the day, so if the windows are open all day we end up with ~20 flying round the centre of the room. At night when it cools off a bit, they seem to prefer to be outside and by 10ish they seem to have all gone. They are probly just hiding but I like to think that they went outside again - makes me feel a bit cleaner :S I remember the worst was a rotting banana that escaped the wheelie bin at uni - apparently capable of supporting a BILLION flies!

Macro photography heaven !!!

haha too true! I'm a bit disappointed with my (fairly) new cameras macro capabilities. My old ricoh compact camera was awsome tho...terrible build quality but a really nice lense. Macro from ~1cm away in good light! might have to dig up some of my macro insect photos! :D

What camera are you using ? I got me a new Canon 500 and even the crappy lens that comes with it is knocking up some surprising shots.......

If you are a fan of macro photography I thought you might like this:

I know it in not a natural subject but from what little I understand of macro photography it is nevertheless a tricky shot to get right.
