kennysarmy Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I have a few allied telesis switches around the network that are functioning fine but for some reason I cannot ping or manage via http: Is there any software I could put on a laptop attached to the switch as the only device that would scan every ip possible until it cracks the one of the switch? K.C.Leblanc Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Angry I.P. scanner will scan a whole range of I.P.s and resolve a host name and MAC address (you have to enable this). It might also be worth checking for odd entries on your DHCP server. It might also be worth checking to see what the default I.P. address is for those switches it. The problem with this is the defualt address probably won't be in your I.P. range, and all the switches will be using the same address. Do the switches have serial ports?

Thanks will try that software.... Yes they do have serial ports and I have that in my back pocket in case the angry man cannot find the IP.... Cheers.
leco Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 The good thing I've found with Angry IP is that it will scan any range you care to put in. So if you have the default address of said switch you can scan on that range:)
p858snake Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Its possible that yours are not setup to "live" on the network with in a IP and that it will need to be configured via the console cable first.

Tunster Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Most switches will have SNMP enabled on them (from default). I'd use SoftPerfect's IP/SNMP scanner (link is below) to scan your whole IP subnet. Only now (5 years down the road in my job) have I had the opportunity to put all our switches on a static IP and secure them all. SoftPerfect Network Scanner: fast and free network scanner
