CHR1S Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 But remember CHR1S, BHP wins races in the pub and Torque wins them on the track and that V6 will be putting some out lol what is making you want a coupe if you dont have one you like in mind you like except a puma? which tend to me rusty and definately womens cars, get a hot hatch normally return good MPG and have alot of poke 190ft/lb compared to Golf TSi 1.4 177ft/lb - I agree a hot/warm hatch is a much better option.

The french like to charge us double for parts, and have some funky practices that see 'custom' kit. My best mate had a Citroen Saxo for years, just a bog standard one, and repairs to it cost more than I've spent on cars including fuel and insurance for the last 6 years. A vauxhall is stupidly easy and cheap to repair, especially for me, as there's a vauxhall plant just a few miles away in Luton. Ford are also pretty good as make a lot of stuff over here too. Honda have some factories here I gather, so they are expensive cars, but average costs on repairs (not the cheapest, but not like a BMW to repair!)
plexer Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Budget is realistically £2.5k and downwards, as for engine anything up to a 2 litre (had a look at insurance for a 2.5l BMW 323i- ouch!) and MPG in all honesty not too fussed about it; mileage is greatly reduced as I live 3 miles from work nowadays rather than 20 in the past! Ric- what sort of thing springs to mind on the German/ Scandinavian front? Scriocco's jump out but most I'm coming across have been to the moon and back in terms of mileage... Cracking input Sted, cheers for that- and for once in my life making me happy that I'm 5'10- no headbanging for me! michael2k6- I'd looked at some of the Astra Coupe's but had been struggling to find one with less than 100k on the clock, 130 brake sounds like it could be fun though... I had a 2.0 one for several years and loved it. From all the reviews the v6's arent really worth it, (more wieght, minimal extra power) I found the 2.0 quick enough, and pretty good on fuel. Was also very good on insurance, I was 19 when I got my first one (have owned 2 now) and the insurance was cheaper than I could get for a fiesta! Steve

I had a Xantia for 2 years, despite formerly being owned by my father (who only put more oil in when nothing shows on the dip stick), it was bullet proof. Only issue in the whole two years was a plastic actualtor arm in the rear suspention coming lose, repairs cost £10. Worst car, well that was another Xantia. Owned it for about 2 months when I realised it needed so much doing I gave it back to the person who gave it to me. Thanks Dad. Now guess what my dad is traying to give me at the moment.
sted Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 After many problems a friend has had with a ford, i wouldn't touch them. I would go for a German or Japaneses car. They are very reliable. my experience is that people i know with vw based cars (so vw/skoda/seat/audi) have more issues than those with fords or even citroens but thats just my experience before someone shoots me down and after owning one seat i wouldnt own another it was a rubbish car
