I think the very poor will be OK, it isn't seen as politically acceptable to increase the burden on them. The Tories won't go for the very rich, as they are the major donors... Which leaves us in the middle. Find a barrel, drop your trousers and bend over!

Well, it seems their first idea is 'sell whatever we haven't sold already'. Namely the Tote, HS1, private finance for Royal Mail, and the student loan book.

 

So, a quick influx of money, but a long term drag IMO.

No we don't but do you really think that launching the country into a further few years of recession is a good idea?

Nobody is saying what Labour did was right, but the worry is that the Tories will throw out the same old routine of punishing the poor to aide the rich. Yes, the fact is, the country is screwed and something needs to be done, but in the past, this has not been done fairly and equally by the Tories, hence all the bad feeling about the impending budget

So, public sector pay freeze for 2 years, except for those on less than £21k per year. Those on less than £21k will receive £250 increase for the 2 'frozen' years.

 

State pension age will increase to 66 at some point, and public sector pensions are going to be investigated by Hutton with a preliminary report by Sept.
