It has been requested for tomorrows opening ceremony and first game to be shown during lunchtime. We have two dinner halls one used by upper years and one by lower years. The lower year group will be happy as that hall has a freeview box connected to our AV system and shown through a projector. The upper school however only has the facility for a laptop or PC to be hooked up to the projector.

So does anyone know if the broadcast will be available online? how long after a broadcast begins is it available on iPlayer or ITV player? I'm thinking BBC news 24 will probably show the opening celebration but probably not show the match.

We're planning on using iPlayer, tvguide.co.uk and we've got a machine with a tuner and windows media encoder. Overprepared much? xD

Any matches on during lesson times in the afternoon have the goahead to be put on for classes at the teacher's choice.

The problem with most online streams is that they are blocked at BGFL level.

I've checked and it looks like ITV are going to be streaming all of their games with ITV player so between them and BBC iPlayer we should be OK.

BBC Iplayer: BBC Sport - Football - The BBC's World Cup coverage and team

The first England match on the BBC will be the final Group C fixture, against Slovenia on 23 June at 1500 BST. This will be followed by England's last-16 and quarter-final matches, should they progress to the knockout stages. Both the BBC and ITV, with whom the BBC is sharing television coverage, will show the final and any semi-final featuring England.

All BBC matches will be available to watch live online in high quality video, while ITV will also show their matches at itv.com/sport. Video highlights of non-BBC broadcast matches will be available on this website. (Note: audio and video available to UK users only).

We imagine that many ISPs will take an appalling shoeing off the world cup. This will be a real test of backbone for many. I would seriously suggest investing in/borrowing a freeview card.

Whichever way the cat jumps, you are likely to need a TV licence (commercial organisations certainly do...)

A licence is definitely required when using the BBC iplayer to watch something live. We've got a TV licence for our Freeview box and I'm under the impression that a licence covers a single address with as many items of TV receiving equipment as you like.

ITV Player will be showing the match - the first one isnt on the BBC

Have you considered the legal implications before you start planning how to go about it?

Possibly a new record! 10 replies before someone mentions legality/copyright/TV licences

Well I consider it to be part of my job to ensure any equipment I setup or service to be in full compliance of the law.

lol it wasnt a personal attack on either of you. Its just amusing that theres been loads of world cup streaming/viewing threads and every one has someone mentioning about TV licences and the like when that hasnt been asked. In a way that is a good thing as some people may not realise, but equally plenty of people probably do realise and are already fully legal

I think the first game kick's off at 3pm so should be way after lunch time.

The opening ceremony is at 1PM so is being shown over lunchtime. Any further games that are on during our lunchtime will also be shown. Only one initial England game is scheduled to be shown during school hours I think
