[closed] improvement: Make Edugeek an OpenID consumer

OpenID is an open framework for centralised, delegated authentication by a provider of the users' choice. It is more convenient, gives more user choice and can be safer (some providers use two-factor authentication, for example).

 

Please consider implementing OpenID as an authentication mechanism alongside the normal method. Users should be able to provide OpenID details in their profile and then optionally use it to sign in. Edugeek can still maintain the same database records for the user, this is not a replacement.

This is something that we have been giving thought to for some time but haven't settled upon the best way to implement it. Give us time

Its a good idea (I don't use openID but I know people who do) guess the only problem is (which other sites have had) is if Edu Geek goes with one alternative login provider how long before someone says 'hey why don't we have Windows Live and Facebook logins too?'.

You misunderstand. They are both OpenID providers already, so enabling OpenID on Edugeek would implicitly enable logins from them and any other provider (that adheres to standards, anyway, which Windows Live may not).

Thats a good idea althoug I wouldn't want use the same login details as facebook for erm... obvious reasons!!

OpenID does not involve in any way sharing login details between providers and consumers.
