Yeah I've just downloaded the latest update pack and started the integration using the nLite. So it works well then?

 

How often does he release the update packs?

Tread carefully I have just read as I havent checked recently that there is an issue with Symantec Antivirus. If you do use that then you may be better of using one of his older packs or not at all. See how you fare first.

We use sophos here but thanks for the warning. Will still tread carefully though as it is still AV software.

 

I have tried to burn the xp to make a bootable disc (just in case i ned it elsewhere) but am experiencing problems. Before i slipstreamed the hotfixes i burned them OK. Have you experienced any problems burning a bootable disc.

 

I've used the eldergeek and msfn guide but still failed.

 

Just did my third and now bootable.

Not had much trouble doing a simple slipsteamed bootable disc. You may want to play around with the build options for the disc.

OK next problem.

 

When using the disc to copy the files for the base image on the RIS server it is throwing up an error saying "the system cannot find the path specified to D:\i386\svcpack\*".

 

Any ideas?

 

I've searched google on the error but brought up nothing.

Hi,

 

I've recently tried installing and setting up RIS. I finally managed to get it to boot from the network into the OSChooser, but after i've been through the little bit of configuration there and confirmed it hangs on the message "setup is inspecting hardware configuration".

 

Also even if i pre-stage the machine it doesn't have the correct details in when i'm in chooser, it just uses the default setting in AD to set the computer name?

 

Anyone had this before?

It look like drivers required for you images are not present in the 'root' image. This is quite common in NIC drivers and there are qyite a few sites with detail instructions on how to add these on the net. Can you please tell us the spec of machine which you are trying to RIS please? Include LAN cards and motherboard chipsets if you can.

Actually it's probably not the best idea to start with what i'm using. It's a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70 laptop. Chipset is "Intel 915GM Express" and the Network Card is an integrated "Realtek RTL 8139/810x.

 

Reason i'm using a laptop is due to not having to space to work. As usual i'm working from my lap, good job i'm not soldering again, lol.

I've had RIS working really well for some time now although one suite I was still ghosting because I could not get the nic's to work. Well I finally got the nics to work on boot today, but its not finding a these drivers

 

Nvidia GeForce Mx4000

Intel Pro 100VE (on the windows part of the install, it is ok on boot)

Realtek AC97Audio

 

I wondered off to msfn to find the answer but it seems to be down at the moment.

 

I know I have to add the drivers I think to the i386 directory but can't remember for sure. Can anyone help?

Well now I'm home I managed to access the site first time, but for all of you who use RIS you should take a look at this AutoImage looks like RougeSpear could be on to a winner, I for one will be trying this

@edie209: You need to make a $oem$ directory and stick stuff in folders in there. Technet or Google should help you find the exact placement.

Any one got a copy of BTS Base Pack Version: 6.03.4. I'm trying to setup RIS using Risult and it doesn't work yet with the new interface for BTS (6.06.01)

I had my first sucessful run with it last night at home and as long as you follow the instructions its easy to use read his forum though because i had a couple of problems at first.

I'm having trouble with machines that have intel pro 100's in them... They boot up ok, i select the image i want, set the computer name etc... It's does it's quick reboot say's "setup is inspecting hardware config" that goes off much quicker than normal, goes to the blue windows setup screen says "please wait " for a while and then pops up a message about the windows installation not having the drivers for the network device.

 

Now i've followed instructions to add the drivers to the image and changed the .sif file(i think it's the right one file) and created the $oem$\$1\drivers\nic directory.

 

Stopped and started the services and it still does the same thing... Anyone got any idea what i'm doing wrong?

 

It's a standard copy of XP with SP2 integrated - I even used nlite to integrate the NIC drivers to start with and that didn't work either ... But it works with other machine that have realtek cards or smc cards...

I had this exact problem when I started with RIS. What it eventually boiled down to, is that there is a intel pro driver SPECIFICALLY for RIS

 

I cant provide any details at the moment but search on the Intel site for RIS / Pro 100 etc

 

Any probs get back to me - i've got the drivers somewhere......

I think they have got them to a point where the normal drivers cover all angles now.

Although now i've actually got it past that point, it blue screens when it gets the point of trying to start windows just before it would normally start doing the format... Is that a HAL problem do you think?

If it is all you need to do is change the entry at the bottom of the answer file to test it.

Good afternoon everyone,

 

I've finally got everything working ok apart from one thing... I've got some dlink network cards that i bought ages ago after a lightening strike took out some on board cards... They are capable of pxe boot only there isn't anywhere on the boards to connect them, so i thought i'd just use the RIS boot disk only to get the message about there being no compatible drivers for that card and then finding out that apparently the answer is buy network cards that are supported.

 

I have 30 of these cards and i don't really feel like replacing them. There's nothing i can do is there?
