Cannot Complete installation

Just spent a whole day building an image for the new windows 7 teacher laptops.

 

Got all the way through activated windows restarted the machine and on start up when it says 'Setting up windows for first use' i get the following error message..............

 

'Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation"

 

I have already installed windows I have all my software installed, this would be the second time this has happened. during sysprep.

 

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong this seems to only happen once I have ativated windows.

I get the same problem using sysprep. The lack of a clear definition of the problem doesnt make it an easy one to troubleshoot. I'm wondering if manufacturer branding of the OS is causing the problems.

 

I was recommended to look at this Sysprep a Windows 7 Machine and I am currently working through it.

This is the same tutorial that I have worked through, I haved tried Googled the issue and I some said it could be someting to do with the windows updates, just before I restarted I did some windows updates, apparantly it could be an update which hasn't installed properly, and it gave a command to type but that didn't work (can't remember the command)

 

This is really bugging me as this is the second time this has happened, and i am very reluctant to start again as its taking a full day to get the software installed.

 

Any further information wold be great.

I've not seen this problem when building Windows 7 images. Typically like yourself I install Windows 7 SP1 VLK + security updates + all applications required, test it, then Sysprep it.

 

Please note you cannot Sysprep Windows 7 Professional OEM for example, only Windows 7 Professional VLK.

Erm you CAN sysprep oem i do it all the time most of my schools dont have vlks

You can probably do it, but it will be against Microsoft's licensing policy.

Unless you are an oem in which case you will be syspreping win 7 oem

Plus it must be a nightmare entering a different Windows key on every single workstation manually.

Well yes but vlk costs more ontop of the lic on ths pcs sticker ad its phone activation that sucks but there are ways round it ;-)
