Help getting some sounds please.....

Rightyho - I've been tasked [ as usual ] in getting some sounds for our play - if anyone can help me out then please let me know where I can get some of these from. MP3 or WAV and any part of them will do, I can do all the editing in Cool Edit Pro....

 

1. Screeching tyres and then slamming doors – it’s got to sound like an old-fashioned engine and doors – circa gangster 1930’s.

2. Machine guns mixed with some ‘raspberry’ sounds to represent the splurge guns

3. News announcement style music – again 1930’s if possible

4. Light traffic noise

5. Overlayed ringing telephones

6. Splurged sound as someone gets a custard pie in the face

7. Chinese Music – actually it would be great if we could get the music from The Pink Panther movie with the Lee-Key Shipyards chase scene...I can’t remember which one it is!!!

8. Three different types of old-fashioned telephone rings

9. An exploding gun – with raspberries!

10. A truck pulling up.

Get stuff you want from youtube or other. use an extracter, or a useful site like www.zamzar.com and they'll email you the mp3. then use an mp3 editor to snip the bits you want, and if it's short which they will be, it should be legal for one off school use.

 

my old school used to have an arrangement through the broadband consortium to offer access to bbc archives via the county internet hookup. maybe you have access too, lots of movie clips, sounds etc all legal too.

 

as for the raspberries and custard effects surely, you can't miss the opportunity to make your own

I've got a couple of CDs of BBC sound effects at home - I'll have a look tonight to see if there's anything suitable.

The piece of music you're probably thinking of is called "Non-stop" although it's later than the 30's (it was used up until the 80s, believe it or not) it probably fits the bill

Give that man a medal !! It is. I have found a few - also being a tad naughty and downloading the movie so I can rip the audio to see if I can get anything from that.

I thought it sounded like you were doing Bugsy. We did it last year & I've emailed our head of music to see it he has any effects I can borrow for you.

LOL was about to say this sounds very familiar... we did Bugsy last year. Will dig out our SFX

I think Bugsy is the in-thing, did it 2 years ago in a junior school, we made all our own sound effects including the splurge guns They also manage to set the fire alarm off with all the shaving foam pies!!

There are a couple of sound effect albums on Spotify. But I don't think you can record the wave out/stereo mix on the same PC. Try taking the physical stereo out of the source and send it to the Line In of another box to record.
