Rydra Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Is it just me, or do movies go from the cinema far too damned quick now! I really wanted to see Kick-Ass in the cinema, but have been rather pre-occupied since it was released on 26th March. I thought that it'd be fine, maybe a few less showings than normal... But it looks like it barely stayed out for 8 weeks, as there is no sign of it in any cinema near me anymore! I swear when I was younger that you didn't have to see a movie in the first 48 hours after it was released, cos it seems to be going that way now.... and I'll wait 3 more months for the DVD no doubt. While I'm here, what movies out atm, or coming out soon are on the 'to watch' lists? For me its: Kick Ass (buggers....) Robin Hood Prince of Persia Iron Man 2 The A Team Karate Kid (probably wait for DVD)
Flakes Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Iron Man 2 and Robin Hood thats it really, personally if i was given the option of a 1 time only watchable DVD to take home for the same price as the cinema ticket i would snap it up no time, i cant stand the cinema, screeming kids, people with phones, noisy eaters, those who have to have there feet up on the chair in front.....

Anyway, my to watch list, Robin Hood and Iron Man 2 (just cos it looks cool, but I need to see the first one yet! lol), outside of that, I fancy trying this 3D thing sometime soon, meant to go and see Avatar and Alice in Wonderland but there we go, life got the better of me! lol ..
Fatmas Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 AFAIK most films have a standard 12 week period at most cinemas. Some studios however have tried to reduce some big films down to 8 weeks so they can get them out on DVD quicker and make more dosh.

Or even a few less quid - I got the Harry Potter movie the day it was released to dvd for £7!! Generally you only have to wait 6 months and its in the £3 bucket at tescos. (I'm not cheap, honest!)

The quality was appauling, and there were no extras, so in 1 couple of months they will no doubt have a limited 2 disc edition with extras to try and cash in LOTR's style!

sidewinder Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Ill be honest, 8 weeks seems a reasonable length of time to me, especially at times when many new movies are coming out. Most people who want to see the film do so in the first few weeks

Our local cinema was going to pass on KA, but saw the money it was taking... Best of that bunch by a long way. No desire to see Small Willie in what they should rename "The Kung Fu Kid". Pete10141748 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I pay for an "Unlimited" CineWorld card, so see almost everything on the day it comes out After paying only £15 a month to go see as many films as I want as many times as I want, I'd never go back to paying £8 to see a single film now. As for showing durations, 8 weeks is tons of time to get to see a film, these days 12 weeks is pushing it from my POV especially with the sheer volume of titles that get released on a weekly basis.

I read a claim online that CineWorld have some sort of copyright on the "unlimited card" concept. Seems a bit hard to believe, though. Forgot "The Last Airbender" on my list.

Seems a bit hard to believe, though. Well, restrictions within reason. Like not being able to go on day of release or it not being valid on friday nights or something. That would be understandable. The copyright does seem rather far fetched, yes! In cinema news I finally went to see Four Lions last night at my local independant place. Really, really good
Rydra Posted May 28, 2010 Author Posted May 28, 2010 I looked at the unlimited ticket for cineworld, as I have 3 cinema's within reasonable distance of me, and 2 of them are cineworlds, not sure what the other is, never been there. But my problem is, there will be one month (like now) with half a dozen movies i'd like to see, then there probably wont be any more for 2-3 months. The scheme is minimum 12 month contract. November/december tends to be a good movie time too.

Same here, but I figured that there's always movies that I think "I'll wait for Sky" that I could watch at the cinema, plus it would be a good way to watch movies that get good reviews but that I might not want to pay out to see.
