Laptop Screen Half Grey

Hello everyone,

 

Someone has given me there laptop to fix. It is a Toshiba Equium P200D-139.

 

When I turn the laptop on half of the screen is grey with coloured lines in between. I thought this was loose connections so I opened it up, but no luck. When I touch the sides of the laptop it seems to work or at least have half the colour.

Well from the sounds of it a damaged panel, have any photos?

Looks like a damage panel.. does it display fine on external???

Had a similar thing with an Acer netbook, except the grey line was vertical and dead centre. Sent the netbook back and the returns note said the screen had to be replaced. More than likely a faulty display.

Hmm... Its strange because when I took it apart I could press around the screen and it would work for a bit. Could it be loose connections inside the screen>

It's broken. Get the screen panel replaced - you can't fix this fault any other way. Replacement panels are quite cheap and it's not hard to do yourself.

9 out of 10 times it's an inverter board, which is a small circuit at the bottom of the display panel. I always replace that if there is no physical damage and you can get them cheap off ebay.

Try re-seating the connector ribbon to the motherboard.

If the screen is illuminated, but just a part of it is not displaying, it will not be the inverter, but the panel itself. If the inverter has failed, the backlight won't work at all.

 

Try looking for a replacement at Laptop Screens | Notebook Screens | Netbook Screens | LCD | LED | WXGA | WUXGA | WSXGA | HD | FULL HD - should be around £80 or so and is a piece of cake to fit for a competent technician. I've got several screens from them recently and saved us a lot of money on labour costs.

Yep panels are easy to fit. Cheapest place I can find to get them from is quoted above.

My uncle had a sony vaio same lcd problem. when starts it worked fine.after some time it grayed with some lines in the middle. if tuched on the righttop corner and adjust forward and backward it will work some point. i thought it's a loose connection, but no luck on opening them. now not lighting up at all. i didnt think about the inverter. i will try to replace it.

I have a Toshiba laptop (Portege M600), The problem is that one it is not booting up after I hit the keyboard hard.

Whenever I press the power on button just a grey screen appears, its not displaying even the BIOS screen (or the screen showing Toshiba logo). Though the laptop is under extended warranty but they won't take a backup of it.

So is there any way to wake my lappy on from its grave.

A quick response is highly appreciated.

You say "grey screen appears" ...I presume you mean it is lit a little just nothing is displayed?

 

Plug in an external monitor to take a backup... if it's just the screen that's dead (as you've posted in a thread about screen faults)

 

Your profile says your a tech analyst... can you remove the HDD and recover your files onto another system (using an adaptor kit of some kind)?

 

Does the laptop show any sign of booting up at all? Lights? Fan's starting?
