Moving User areas from one server to another

I need to move around 1000 user areas from one server to another. Is there any tools to can do this and keep the permissions?

 

Also i need to redirect the users home directory within active directory, again is there any tool available to do this, as it will take a long time manually to do 1000 accounts.

to move the users you could try Robocopy ( i use the GUI version) fairly simple to use, i moved over 100o users a few summers ago. The tool will carry across perms etc

as for the Home directory you can do this in Active directoy by selecting all the users with shift and going to properties

For keeping permissions I would think backing up and then restoring to the new server should do the trick.

I have tried the select shift and properties, then profile and tick home folder enter the root path of the share eg \\server\gcse$\ and i get "the specified path is not valid. enter a valid network server path using the form \\server\share\folder". It wants me to manually assign each home folder.

Try \\server\gcse$\%username%

 

This assumes \\server\gcse$ exists with correct permissions and creates their home folder as their username.

Also, If you do a search you will find the same answers as above as this question has been asked before many times and only the other day it was mentioned again. just a heads up as you may get a quicker answer to your question if you do a quick search before hand.
