I am currently having problems with a laserjet 4600n, just wondering if anybody had experienced similar problems.

this printer is fitted with a jetdirect 615n print server. When the machine is first switched on, the first print that is sent to it has no problem, after this however nothing will print at all, in addition i cant no longer ping the jet direct card. If i then reboot the printer it gets to the stage of claibrating and then hangs. If I reboot it with the jetdirect card taken out it will boot OK.

To get it to work again I have to do a cold restart, the same process as described above then happens again.

I suspect that the jetdirect card is faulty, but, do not have another available to check this out.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

had the exact same problem with mine.

had alook for replacement card's but they were around the £150 mark,

you should be abe to get a second hand one for £100.

ended up sharing the printer off the librarians pc.

If it's got a USB socket you could do worse than grab an HP en3700 printserver from http://www.makingitgreen.co.uk for £19.99 + VAT + delivery.

They work well and at that price well worth it..

If not you can get second hand cards from ebay easy enough although there's the inherent risk of getting a duff one.

If you give the supplier in our advertisers section a ring they would be able to sell you a used Jet Direct card for a reasonable price.

Does removing the jet direct from it prevent it hanging at calibration?

Can you then print to it via the parallel interface?

Ours can be a bit troublesome but that's normally only when we run it diagnostic mode to turn of the cartridge check when it's run out of a toner and we don't have a spare.

You can get loads more prints out of a cartridge :)

hehe Good old diagnostic mode, I run mine in it for months sometimes as those chips lie, although I now have a set of everlasting chips so rip the HPs off and use them instead and they are great.

I have had this issue, well something similar with the Jet D cards, in the end I used a Parallel server, and then the printer works, but then it gets muddled, confused and prints garbage. Turns out that its the formatter board going dead on the printer, which to replace was more than the printer was worth in mine, i juggled some around as I have more than one of these printers and the problem seems to have died away for now but that printers on the to be skipped in new budgets list.

I bought an everlasting chip for the black I think and it was more trouble than it was worth first one died second one worked at first and now just says invalid chip.
