HP LaserJet 2600n with Server 2008R2

Hi,

 

I know there are millions of issues on here and the rest of the net about this but wondering if anyone has this same issue:

 

We have always had issues with our 2600n Printers on 2003. However after messing around with bi-directional, print processor etc they do work - all 18 of them!!

 

However now it comes to migrating to server 2008 R2 and the problem comes back to haunt us. I have tried pretty much every driver in every installation method and still no luck. The Windows 7 USB driver crashes explorer every time I print, the vista drivers don't install.

 

Anyone have any ideas?

Are you using the specific driver from the hp site for this printer or the hp universal driver. I know many on here seem to have had issues with the universal driver but I have been using it on a 2008 R2 print server for a while for printing to one of these and have had no issues with it from either 64 or 32 bit clients printing to it.

I've tried the specific drive and the Universal Print Driver... Which one are you using? Did u set it up with the USB first?

I use the latest HP universal print driver, and set it up to point directly to the ip address of its ethernet port. I don't think that ours have ever been connected via the USB, we used to have two but one died.

So you setup a TCP/IP port? I've jsut tried even more drivers and still no luck. The universal print driver doesn't support 2600n. Only 2605....

quite a lot of hps are terrible on 2008 r2 for instance i have a 3500 where the x64 driver on the server works in black and white but the x86 driver clients get (and its the same version etc) gives full colour. Quite often ive had to resort to a 2003 hyper v just for printers

Having the same issue at a client of mine. 2008R2 servers and the 2600n with the 64bit 2600n drivers from HP just don't work. More often than not the print jobs just sit in the queue forever and just never print. But hook it to a 2003 server and its fine. HP's driver support is pretty woeful.

I had similar issues with an old HP 4100TN. I spend ages trying to get it to work with Server 2008 R2 64-bit.

Eventually I discovered that I could add it quite happily to my Windows 7 64-bit machine directly, so I copied Microsoft's drivers for HP onto the Server and hey-presto! It worked!!! Yey! Give it a try for yourself! (assuming you have a Windows 7 64-bit machine of course! )

the way we get around it is to migrate the printers form a 2003 server to the 2008 and its worked great, however if you then try to make any changes to said printer it could corrupt it and you will need to re migrate it again.

Just had a quick look at our print server. It's Server 2008 Standard SP2 (x86) and the we're using HP's own Windows 7 driver (version 06/27/2007, 6.2.1). I have 10 2600n's working on it.

Sorry to drag up a really old topic but i have just got these dam printers working on 2008R2. Install the Windows 7 x64 driver from the HP site. Once installed, make sure you untick Enable Bi-directional Support. That way the printer will work.
