Can anyone help with requirements for projector and screen for school hall. Am being quoted for a widescreen screen and an xga projector.

1. Is it worth looking for a Widescreen projector?

2. What lumens? Over 2300? How much difference does short throw make?

3. Contrast?

4. LCD/DLP?

Will also have cd, dvd and laptop connection. Anything else to look out for?

We went for a big standard ratio electric screen, which rolls down with the flick of a switch. It's big enough that it displays widescreen fine too, I have the projector set so 4:3 and 16:9 fit on it fine. We bought a widescreen projector, Optoma thing. Fairly cheap and cheerful really, but does 720p no problems. 2500 lumens, shows up really well in our bright hall. It's DLP - I don't have to get up to clean it every few weeks as there's no filters.

 

We specified to have multiple connections to the projector, so a laptop, DVD player etc can be plugged in at the front of the stage, or tucked away in a cabinet at the side. The amp/mixer is also there. It's been very good, was a cheap setup but no complaints here.

I think it all comes down to budget at the end of the day. Your best bet would be to get a local AV company in to provide you with a free survey. That way you can get lots of ideas that you probably didn't think about and they can explain the pros and cons to each solution. The biggest issue in halls I tend to find is ambient light levels. Any half decent company should bring along a light reader with them and take numerous readings from different parts of the hall. This way the correct lumens projector can be quoted for.

We use Advanced Connections for our system, We have an an Elite Electronic Screen and a Sanyo PLC-XTC50L we also have a built in speaker system with amplifiers and also radio mike connections.
