Birmingham Linux Project failure is a success !?!

I'm glad that somebody has seen sense and that the council remains committed to finishing the project that they have begun. Many government projects/initiatives fall by the wayside when politicians get bored or there's an overspend.

Councils are always p*ssing away their funds though and council tax is just another example of Rip Off Britan. Especially seeing as Councils can afford to pay a traffic light engineer £70K when hes off sick on full pay for 6+months and the guy painting lines that was on over £1000 per week!

I think us IT people are in the wrong trade!

Right, thats it! Whinge over for now! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr @ Councils!

point is that over time they will save a huge amount of money.

Once they paid out for the linux upgrade they are then not commited to paying MS every few years for an upgrade to windows, office, windows servers, cal, exchange. etc

Seems the initial upgrade was more expensive but over a few years it will pay off. Good for council tax payers in the long run, and unfortunate that most aren't that forward thinking.

Only trouble with traffic light engineer as a career is that although it pays well, its a very stop and go lifestyle
