3s-gtech Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Wow! You have a lot of machines! Was that my dumb comment? Windows 2000...
K.C.Leblanc Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 2000 is still pretty sound, very stable and pretty quick when set up right. DirectX 9.0c too, just like XP! I only migrated our last couple of 2000 machines a few months back. My dad is still running it on all his machines. One is a C2D machine that's only a year old. He also uses office 97.
SimpleSi Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Me using WinME!! - slander I say (or is it libel?) I only work with WfWg3.11, Win98SE (dabbled with a NT Server and a few Win2000 clients) and XP (Home preferably of course) Looking forwarded to learning about whatever comes after VistaSE (Sorry Win7 ) regards Simon
mattx Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I miss NT4 and OS2 ver 3 & 4 - as for Windows ME......[ We called it Windows Mcdonald's Edition in my old place of work ] the network wizard sort of comes to mind in giving me headaches.....
IanT Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 ME...............was that the classic M$ OS which lasted 1 day......
sted Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 like people slagging of vista i never got the slagging me got for me, i found it as or more stable than 98se and had usb pen drive support. i cant remember having any bsd issues with it that werent related to that horrid bit of hardware the soundblaster live. Vista i also found more stable than xp (in 64 bit 32 wasnt as good but i did a quick install as i thought 64bit had gone wappy turned out ms had screwed up tv guide in media centre and i couldnt find an sp1 x64 disk) i often use a server (and 9 times out of 10 my schools have just one) for web surfing granted its not ideal (and i turn off enhanced security/iescc as its way to annoying) but as i dont have a desk/pc its sometimes that or nowt
SimpleSi Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I find it's more worrying people are browsing the internet with their servers?! My servers are my desktop machines in my schools as well -I wonder if having 10 FF tabs open and editing a video might have some influence on Year 2 being unable to print 30 full colour 2 Paint a Pictures ...... Simon
Out_of_Sync Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 So no Mac or Linux fanboys visit the site then ;-) Oi, I lurk around daily with Firefox 3.5 on Linux!
jamesb Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Apparently mentioning ME while working for Microsoft is pretty much taboo. Written out of history.
korifugi Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Apparently mentioning ME while working for Microsoft is pretty much taboo. Written out of history. Hah! Windows Memory Erased...!
tmcd35 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Hah! Windows Memory Erased...! I'm sure MS considered calling it Windows 98TE at one point. It's a shame they didn't has the name more acurately describes the OS - Windows 98 Turd Edition (Joke works better if you pronounce it with an Irish accent )
Dos_Box Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 Oi, I lurk around daily with Firefox 3.5 on Linux! That was just the drill-down on Windows platforms. It actually looks like this: Windows - 700,347 Mac - 39,276 Linux - 39, 034 iPhone - 3037 Sun - 841 Android - 757 iPad - 165 (own up, who is it?)
