Smoothwall's "Unmoderated Images Sites" category

Pupil's at our school range from 13-18. Do I unblock the "unmoderated Images sites" category and trust that the dynamic content will catch most of the bad stuff? Or do I play it cautious and totally block them?

 

Opinions? What do you do if you are a smoothie users?

I thinks (thinking very hard makes my brain hurt today) but I've blocked un-moderated in that same age range but allow the moderated

I would be inclined to keep unmoderated blocked. It is kinda harsh, but probably sensible.

There are literally a handful of sites in "moderated". these are those that both have a "no porn" policy *and* we believe manage to enforce it in a vaguely sensible way.

 

If you *don't* block the unmoderated sites, smoothie will certainly still make it harder to find porn on them (with safesearch, search flitering, content analysis etc), but the outcome is less clear cut

 

Also, posts in forums etc. often have pics from IH sites - this is one place unsavoury content may be found more easily than most.

Is it possible to put a tool on the SmoothWall website to check the categorisation of domains and URLs using the most current lists?

Daniel - unfortunately not. Guardian is a content filter, so the lists don't always represent what the dynamic analysis would reflect.

 

We hope to add some diag to the product for this this year sometime...!
