Cubasis - not previewing as you play [FIXED]

It's a while since I've meddled with the black art that is Cubase. We have a problem with a new installation of Cubasis. The soundcards are SB Audigy2 zx's.

 

The keyboard input displays on the meter [the red meter], but you can't hear as your playing [and the green - input meter is dead]. You can hear what you played when you play it back [the green meter flashes away].

 

The soundcard is working correctly I think - it passed a basic duplex test suggested on Creatives website.

 

Any ideas anybody??

in sound settings has it got roland selected as midi section.

 

Also obvious question check midi cable

 

cable in is in out socket and cable out is in the in socket etc

Yeah - the cables are connected to the opposites - got that bit

 

The teacher is a self proclaimed expert in Cubasis - and he can't figure it out - as I say - the hardware passed the test.

Just a few things ( Although some of them are probably obvious or even stupid suggestions, it wouldnt hurt to check them out ) :

 

1.] Open up the tower case and make sure that the sound card has a power connector hooked to it as these sound cards require power.

 

2.] Make sure all the mixer lines that the keyboard or software uses or needs isnt muted and or make sure that the correct ones are selected.

 

3.] As for whether it is roland or w/e else, try all the options it gives you and see if that helps.

 

4.] Make sure all the cables are firmly seated and connected in the correct holes / ports or whatever you want to call them lol.

 

Also what is the driver situation like ? Maybe you could go to the creative website and update the relevant drivers and possibly the software

Music village [spits!] - we have some of thier PC's - over-priced crap! - they just gave up on Cubasis - not pro s/w [they have a point]. Good idea tho' - I don't think it works on thier PC's either - so the call would be legit!

biggist problem is cubasis has now been sold again....

You can get Cubase SE3 (think its E) for about £50 each now - we're looking at the different flavours today.

 

Either way, it would be alot better than Cubasis - Cubase SX3 is probably overkill tho (depending on the usage) and SL3 looks a good medium at around £118 p/license.

 

We have one version of SX1 (soon to be upgraded to SX3) and have various older versions of VST 5, 3.7, etc... , and also got given (lol) 4 copies of Cubasis [shrink wrapped - edu versions] - they have got used to them but its like a different program compared to Cubase lol

 

Midi is sooo much easier to use on Cubase than Cubasis.

 

I'll let you know more info later.

 

What are they gonna be using the suite for mark? Does the teacher know how to use Cubasis? (or cubase?)

A new teacher has just started Nath who is supposedly an expert. Previously they've used Sibelius for the same task - but he isn't familiar with that.

 

[bTW Sibelius plays out loud as you're recording]

 

We tried selecting all the different drivers in Cubasis > Options > Audio Setup and nothing worked

Expert in Cubase or Cubasis? There is a differnce

 

Cubase does it all fine - and Cubasis *should* do it but they are two worlds apart

 

Can one comment on the various Cubase Sx3 versions about? (not got time to start new thread - am late lol - mark, let me know later)

 

Our teacher uses the scoring part of things, but some say the scoring in the cheaper Cubase Sx (SL, SE) versions is different/not there. Is this true?

Yes - Cubasis expert - not Cubase.

 

Just got hold of Music Villiage who said to click the yellow 'monitor' button on the midi track. Cubasis doesn't have a yellow 'monitor' button!!!

Ooh - forgot to post the fix to this thread! - there's a patch for Cubasis that fixes this.

It was just some guy that actually used Cubasis [strange bloke huh!? ] knew of the fix - and it is actually hosted on some obscure Stienberg site [Canada] - so you could hardly call it a straight forward driver update by any stretch of the imagination I think.
