mattx Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I dropped an Active board today - [ I was removing it from the wall to re-seat the cable going into the back and my dodgy tennis elbow then kicked in and I could not hold it although I did have it resting on a chair ] - anyhoo I have completely broken the cable going into the back..... This is a really old board which uses serial as it's connection and then the power supply goes into the back of the serial cable which of course goes into the back of PC. I rang the company which we got it from back in 2002 and they did say they would ring back but they haven't - can someone please suggest a good contact / supplier I could contact in order to order a new one.... [ I don't want to pay the extra million pounds I know Promethean will charge ]
glennda Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Power cable is here Promethean Power Supple Serial Cable is available here 8m Promethean Serial Cable This is what i have just googled for the parts - but my normal supplier for this type of thing is Casscom they are normally pretty good and you ask them for the product and they tend to find it for you. Sylv3r Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Promethean sell through resellers now - I don't think you can go direct anymore. I have used Redirect in the past for pens etc - they will probably have the cable you require.
Devontechie Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Think they do a Serial to USB cable for the Promethean Boards. Just trying to see if I can find any for you.
judyB Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I have several spare ones as we use USB and they used to ship with both - they're still sealed in the plastic bag, never used. PM me with your address and I'll post one to you.
mattx Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 You are a star dot star. Will be happy to re-emburse the cost of the postage - will PM you my address. Thanks once again.
chazzy2501 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Help! I can't buy the serial cable, does anyone have a supplier? (AVpartmaster said they couldn't get one anywhere) I didn't drop mine but somehow between rooms (it was moved) it was damaged >.. (yes they're on ebay but the school can purchase from ebay:)
judyB Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 This emailed me as I replied to the earlier post - i thought no way I've still got one of them hanging around - unless... Had a rummage in the "Misc whiteboard cables" box I brought over from the old building and can you believe I've still got one. I'm such a hoarder! We had a rebuild 2 years ago and we don't even have the model of whiteboard that use these any more... Anyway I don't know if it's the one you want - it must be at least 5 years old, it has a little power socket on the back of the serial connector. If that sounds like the thing PM me your address and I'm sure we can sort something out. cheers, JUDY (proud supplier of Promethean serial cables to edugeek members)
timzim Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Measure the width of the board connector plug carefully as there are different sizes: we inherited a whole host of Promethean IWBs just this year, all of different ages. There are at least two different size connectors for the older boards (not sure what type of plug it is exactly) even though the boards look very similar. There is no universal connector!
judyB Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 the board end is 17mm wide and looks like this http://webobjects2.cdw.com/is/image/CDW/2536230?$product_230$ The other end is a serial connector with DC in. Let me know if it's any use!
iPrimary Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Promethean are all sold through Computer2000. Just logged into their site and whilst they're still showing the plugs as available, their stock is 0, so It's doubtful you'll be able to buy them through any vendors, unless ofc they've a stock pile still! Thankfully you seem covered by all the generous EduGeek members and their hoarding ways!
