HI,

 

I'm looking for a home NAS box. The main thing is the Remote Access features of the unit, most, if not all seem to have remote access but I'm after a NAS with drag'n'drop file access over the internet. I believe that the Netgear ReadyNAS DUO range provides software for this functionality, could anyone confirm this and how well it works?

 

Any suggestions are appreciated.

All ReadyNASs support FTP and WebDAV (via an add-on). More details on the latter here. However, I can't tell you how well they work since I sold my ReadyNAS.

I built a Windows home Server and have found it excellent in use. Supports most things and has a reasonable community building extra software for it.

You could download a 3 month free trial, not sure if you still can, and try it on your own box.

Yup - has remote access - though the file size limit is 2Gb i'm sure you can set up remote FTP to it too. The 180 day trial should still be about too.

The old QNAP drives have a whole host of features

Im either toying with one of these or building an atom based server using ubuntu server... not decided yet

You could also try Freenas, if you've got a spare box lying about...
