LosOjos Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Hi all, I'm having intermittent trouble with SIMS failing to connect to the address validation service. It appears to be my machine rather than the server, as I can connect if I move to a different machine but mine just won't have it. Has anybody else had issues with it? Got any idea's how I could fix it? Any help would be much appreciated, Josh
matt40k Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Proxy settings? Perhaps your exceptions\local bypass address?
LosOjos Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 Looked at both of those, mine are no different to on a working machine, and some days it will work, others it won't, and I can't think of anything that I run on certain days that could be conflicting
matt40k Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Have you tried to ping the address to check for packet loss for say 20mins?
LosOjos Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 I don't know what IP address Sims looks up addresses from, does anybody on here know?
PhilNeal Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 See notice below from SupportNet ***Data Centre Update - Normal services have been resumed*** Please be advised that normal services have been resumed following on from the data centre outage this afternoon. We apologise for any convenience caused and thank you for your patience. Kind Regards Sarah Britten

Kind Regards Sarah Britten Thanks for that, but I still have the problem and it only seems to be happening on my machine so I think there's some setting/software somewhere on my system that's blocking it
glensc Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I don't know what IP address Sims looks up addresses from, does anybody on here know? I beleive ( from reading their support site stuff ) the validate function takes it to here http://www.capitasolus.co.uk/CESAddress/ Dont' know what code/security details are passed back and forth to work it though. We had a similar issue a couple of weeks ago that then suddenly started working again, nothing we'd changed here, it apparently broke again ( according to our datamanager ) who's not git back to me about it this morning.
ktopp Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Hi, having the same problem here. It seems to be our Smoothwall box that's causing the problem but the only way around is to put in an exception in the form of an i.p. address. Any clues as to the ip address of http://www.capitasolus.co.uk/CESAddress/?
ktopp Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Thanks Gordan. That's the one address that I have been able to find and it doesn't work. Unfortunately our local SIMS support people were as much in the dark about this as me and Capita weren't forthcoming because our support contract isn't with them.
matt40k Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Thread zombie or what! Have you checked to see if your configured to connect to your LA rather then Capita?
ktopp Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Matt, Thread Zombie, that's a new one on me. No we're configured to go directly to the address above. I've put our support company on the case if they come up with the goods I'll post here.
matt40k Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Well what do you call it when you reply to a nearly 7 year old post? Lol! Suspect Smoothwall will come up with the goods (assuming its not something silly like Capita service just being down). Going slightly off topic - has anyone ever wondered why addresses is so broken? The Office of National Statistics did a excellent post that explains some of the complex bits - https://blog.ons.digital/2014/08/20/ons-api-understanding-geography/
ktopp Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Oh, I see. To be honest I didn't look at the dates I just saw fellow sufferers. ;-) Putting the ip address as an exception was Smoothwall's fix so I don't think that there will be solution coming from that quarter.
