Right, im in need of some creative types!

I have a server Dual Xeon 4Gb 1.5Tb space Server 2003, which I have sitting doing nothing that needs a new lease of life!

There is one catch, I dont have the server indefinatly so whatever it does must be able to transfer to new/old hardware if its viable.

So I ask you clever lot... what can I do with it that costs nothing but time?

Thanks

fill it full of water, fabricate some waterproof LEDS and clear panels and you have good fish tank.

PS serious one, Print server, A backup server, theres endless possibilities! but the funny ones are best

Write 'flux capacitor' on the side and stick it where everyone can see it - [ Especially good looking ladies ] - great conversation starter.

Cover it with flashly LEDs - and stick it where everyone can see it, when asked what it does say:

'It reverses the polarity of the neutron flows for the network.'

Put some kitchen doors on instead of the side panel and use it as a cupboard?

or ask some really skinny kids to carry it for you then lead them round the building until they start crying and report you or gain some upper arm stregnth!

Is it home time yet? :bored: today has drrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaggggged!

media server?

Install PHP motion on it and set up your own internal youtube.

Cracking idea!! only problem is once every works out how to use and likes it, it will be time to get rid of it! then the complaints come it

You could use it to tackle soem global issues by running a distributed computing project:

Folding@Home

Or use it for offloading big processing jobs like huge photosynths or rendering students blender work.

You could also use it to host a bunch of special interest forums for the students or something.

Other than that, grab some long mouse, keyboard, monitor cables and use it as your workstation :D

Do this, your staff will love it. We have a similar (bespoke [not quite as good]) system, and it gets used loads - especially by depts that rely on video clips.

Do you know when the server will be taken off you /redeployed? Tell staff it's a test environment for the short term and so they don't invest too much time in it. If they really like it, it's something you can take to your management team and ask for some proper investment in.
