CHR1S Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 So, whos got it and what do you think? Im a couple of hours in and so far im impressed, the story and cinematics so far have been great! The new battle system seems a bit confusing but im sure ill master it!
Theblacksheep Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 30 hours in...Just got to Gran Pulse. Linear upto that point but still loving it. Battle system = awesome.
Little-Miss Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Liking the Avatar Chr1s! I've been a Final Fantasy fan for years but 12 hasnt made me want to run out and buy it? Am i wrong?
CHR1S Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 30 hours?? How far in are you, good to see its another lengthy slog Its beautiful to look at and the story so far is great, but I think you either love or hate FF, personally I love them. Just wish you could get 7 and 8 for xbox... is there a PC version about?
Tyiell Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I've got it - and I've got mixed feelings. I've come back to the series for the first time since FF9, and I still reckon 7 is the best!! The Gameplay is much improved, the chaining of attacks is much better, and I like the Paradigms. I'm coming round to only directly controlling the lead character, rather than the whole team in sequence. On the other hand, the story is cheesy like old stilton, everyone spends all their time saying "i'll protect you!" & "i'll never leave your side" and other such lamentable lines every 1.5 seconds. And I can't quite bring myself to skip the cutscenes... Also the normal fights are generally too easy, whereas the boss fights are hugely harder - possbily due to the fact that you can't choose your team leader - you can be forced to do a pretty hard boss fight with they girliest, weakest character going. But overall, thumbs up...
Little-Miss Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Why do they keep messing with the Aeons/GF's! They were so cool when you just called them to do your bidding! Now they're vehicles are they?
Tyiell Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Agreed - that's another cheesy moment when they hop onto the Horse/motorcycle/whatever the "Eidolons" are, it just reminds me of the power rangers building their big robot things and posing for a cheesy shot of them all as they say "Ha!" really loudly
DAZZD88 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 This is the first FF I've bought and I think it's pretty darn awesome. Even if the battling doesn't do it for you or the rest of the game play you have the awesome cut-scenes to ogle at. I'm only up to chapter 6 and some of the battles are fairly difficult but most of the time I have been using auto attack out of pure laziness so this hasn't helped me. I'm starting to get the hang of the battle system and it's getting quite interesting.
apeo Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Never really got into FF but i did wonder if i should get it. I decided against its in the end because i think it doesnt allow for multiplayer.

Theblacksheep Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 30 hours?? How far in are you, good to see its another lengthy slog Just got to Gran Pulse, start of chapter 11.... a guess is that is about about half way through. Although i'm not sure. Hoping 'verses 13' and '14' are out this year.

browolf Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Im quite tempted to get a console just for it but I'm sucked into ffxi again so no time free for other games, but the battle system what i've seen looks kind of similar to what they're doing with ffxiv.
CHR1S Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 So TBS any tips I sould be aware of.. like for weapon upgrades etc? Finally mastered the combat system, kinda like it. Getting repeatative now tho, run 100 yards and fight then repeat untill boss; Im only 10 hours in, hope its not another 20 hours of this?

Hoping 'verses 13' and '14' are out this year. 13 Chapters, 11,12,13 are very open and long to complete, plus there are side missions and the likes now. Should take you at least another 8-14 hours to Blitz the finish, or alot more if your going for ultimate weapons.

It's called the 20 hour tutorial and has been heavily criticized, after you get to chapter 11, its a completely new game. And as a pre-warning (Make sure you keep at least one SEN filled with CP, you'll need it)
CHR1S Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 And as a pre-warning (Make sure you keep at least one SEN filled with CP, you'll need it) Refresh my memory, SEN and CP?
ahuxham Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Refresh my memory, SEN and CP? Sentinel and Crystal Points. I.e. Max everything you can
DAZZD88 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Refresh my memory, SEN and CP? I believe that stands for SENTINEL and CRYSTANARIUM POINTS.
CHR1S Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 So I already spend my CP points when I get them, but the sentinal points, you mean make sure my chars with sentinal are maxed out?
ahuxham Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 So I already spend my CP points when I get them, but the sentinal points, you mean make sure my chars with sentinal are maxed out? Exactly, Snow is ideal for this as is Fang later in the game, you'll come across alot of enemies where you need to tank. Commando / Sentinel / Ravager Commando / Sentinel / Medic Bit like that.
CHR1S Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Well I just finished chapter 9 last night, could not defeat Barthandelus at all! So decided to grind the mobs in the save area just before. Maxed out the CP of every char and did him in 11 minutes dead. So it seems the only way to get on in this game is grind grind grind! Im liking this version less and less, does it have any cool distractions like in 7 where you raced the chocobos or did the battle arena?
ahuxham Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) Well I just finished chapter 9 last night, could not defeat Barthandelus at all! Im liking this version less and less, does it have any cool distractions like in 7 where you raced the chocobos or did the battle arena? You do get a chocobo in Chapter 11 to run around with, there are numerous missions/hunts to fulfil toward the end, and even finishing the store there are plenty of things todo. The grind grind mechanism is quite a falsitude at times, I finished the story in 20 hours blitzing through, there are enough "forced" mobs there to be able to get enough CP to max at least one if not two classes per character, I never grinded at all. It's all about the right Para chosen when fighting mobs, for example the boss at end of chapter 5 took me 2mins to complete where alot of people had problems, just COM/RAV to build the change while the Com slows the stagger down, than switch to RAV/RAV to stagger it, once staggered its COM/RAV again to blitz the mob in the air. Everything can be done without grinding or without upgrading weapons, its just about using the right Paradigms(sp)? Chapter 11 and the openness will defiantly open the game for you, just give it a go and you'll soon see how Chapter 1-10 are just a long tutorial. And when you have your Choco, you can Treasure hunt, and its very fun. Replaying the game now with the ideal to max all weapons, all classes, and collect everything. 22hours and just started Chapter 6 now, all three Paradigms maxed for Vanille, Hope, Lightning and Sazh and all weapons at level 20. I am grinding slightly, Chapter 5 was really good for this low level with those orange slug things. Edited March 23, 2010 by ahuxham 1
