Craggus2000 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Hi, Desperate help needed here please!! We have ISA 2006 Standard. Up til now it has been running perfectly... This morning I came in to find that internet access was down, with the following error in the Alerts/Monitoring page of ISA configuration every 10 mins or so: "Routing (Chaining) Failure" Whilst in the Application Log at the same time, the following error appears: Event ID: 14130. The Web Proxy filter detected that the upstream proxy server x is not available. During all this, access to the web is unavailable. Now i know the upstream proxy (our county's firewall) is working, as I have a single machine that connects ok (not via the ISA server). Checked all cabling, and all seems fine. Various searches on the web has not really turned anything useful up. Rebooted server but to no avail. Can anyone help please?!?!
adameye Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Does your ISA server go out to an open internet connection or is it through the LEA proxy?
BatchFile Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 First things I'd try: Can the ISA server ping the upstream proxy? Put the ip of the proxy in instead of the name to rule out DNS trouble
Craggus2000 Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Does your ISA server go out to an open internet connection or is it through the LEA proxy? Via the LEA Proxy. 'Direct' Connection is not possible. First things I'd try: Can the ISA server ping the upstream proxy? Put the ip of the proxy in instead of the name to rule out DNS trouble Yes, can ping the upstream proxy, by name and IP. Putting the IP of the proxy has made no difference.
BatchFile Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Using a browser on the ISA server, configured to the LEA proxy, do you get web access?
Modey Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Whenever we have the same error messages on our ISA server (TMG 2010 now) it's because the Internet is down (EMBC). We have never had that in relation to an error with our ISA server config or setup etc...
danrhodes Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Have you rang your LEA and asked if there are any current issues?
Craggus2000 Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Using a browser on the ISA server, configured to the LEA proxy, do you get web access? Nope, just sits there.
danrhodes Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Could you attach a copy of your ISA log files please see if we can sort the issue. D

Craggus2000 Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Have you rang your LEA and asked if there are any current issues? Turns out there is an intermittent problem with our LEA's broadband supply... Whoops... Could you still take a look at my logs to make sure its not two problems?!
danrhodes Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Yeah sure send em over i'll have 5 mins for ya :-)
BatchFile Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Nope, just sits there. Turns out there is an intermittent problem with our LEA's broadband supply... Whoops... I was about to say "Network Adapter" - which is often what an upstream problem (or LAN storm) looks and feels like;) Glad you're on the road to sorted:)

Kitkatninja Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 You've already mentioned that your LEA's broadband is experiencing intermittent problems. I would recommend waiting and get the LEA to solve/resolve the broadband issues, before trying to find problems that may or may not exist. -Ken
AceDaz Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I have had this problem as well. Turns out the timings were matching up with their filtering software reloads, it can take a few mins for them to reload and it is all done on all the proxy servers simultaneously. It's something we have just learned to live with. But now we are getting a lot of the below errors on random websites. Not a ISA generated error, but a upstream proxy error. LEA are unsure why, but they said when it happened the other day it was due to a problem with a proxy server which was removed. ERROR The requested URL could not be retrieved -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- While trying to retrieve the URL: Google The following error was encountered: Socket Failure The system returned: (98) Address already in use Squid is unable to create a TCP socket, presumably due to excessive load.
