If teachers are unable to do a paperbased backup of their work, then there is a serious issue. I drum it in almost daily to all staff that they should have a text based version of what they want to do. In every room there is a whiteboard and an IWB. the IWB is a TOOL, not a neccessity to learning (which some staff think it is).

So basically, what you're saying is that the IT system in your school is so rubbish that users should never, ever rely on it and that all times you should just rely on paper???

I'd guess that's not really what you mean but it's certainly the way it comes across!

Of course a teacher (and anyone else) needs to be prepared for disaster but they shouldn't have to expect it - they ought to expect to be able to go into a classroom and use the equipment and that expectation should be met on the vast majority of occasions (and an SLA ought to specify things like how quickly problems are going to be fixed and how often problems might occur which can't be fixed very quickly)

There is a huge difference between being flexible and capable of surviving should things break down, and saying that users should 'never ever rely on it'.

I have backup solutions to many things we do here, as do most of the admin team for their roles. Teachers should too.

Don't go

Walk, cycle, bus.

Stay up all night

Man up and practise, that is not acceptable (use the time that you are not going to bed to good effect)

Good they are the devil's food

Yeah got me there. Not much you can do about accept find something you like doing and do it. Or moan about your current job and colleagues incessantly. Choice is yours.

maybe you don't live in the real world, in response to your question, if you seriously think people have that much of a choice in avoiding things and people they don't like.

you worked anywhere or done anything else besides what your doing now...? And how did that work out for you ? Never felt a them and us element. ever. in any of those other life experiences ?

Hooray we are back to teacher bashing. The one topic that really makes us look professional.

Note the irony in my voice.

This kind of comment really riles me.

Until recently my partner was a class teacher and worked bloody hard at it. By the end she was working 15 hour days to stay on top of all the various crap she was expected to do (mostly pointless paper pushing) on top of actually teaching the kids something.

Does anybody here making moronic comments about teachers really understand the kind of pressure teachers work under? Lets compare how many IT support staff leave their job due to stress against teachers. By comparison our jobs are a walk in the park and if anyone is not living in the real world it us

In my experience it is teachers such as your partner who would have the biggest gripes against rubbish teachers - from what I have seen here, a few excellent teachers in each department hold the entire school up in spite of (rather than with the aid of) the dross teachers that surround them...

@torledo mattx gave some trival examples, these are easily avoided and I pretty sure you can't argue against that. All except work and I do concede that, however what I won't concede is that if you work in a place full of people that you hate then do should do something about it, take responsibility for yourself, move, just do something other than moan about it. Yes I did do something before this and I hated it, so I got another job, one that I like and now life is good :)

@Tyiell thanks for the most sensible post of this thread, you are of course completely correct. Things are not as black and white as I asserted earlier. I admit I am somewhat over sensitive to these topics due to personal reasons.

NOT going to sleep is something you class as easy. Tell you what, don't go to bed for a month - see how long you stay alive for.
