Cannot open internet site

I'd really appreciate it if anyone using any flavour of IE could try to access-

 

BBC - GCSE Bitesize: Joints and their function

 

When our students try to access it the attached error appears.

 

I've checked application logs and there is nothing there. This happens regardless of Impereo (running or not) and it doesn't matter if it's going through our SM box or not.

 

I have been thinking corrupt Flash or Shockwave, but it happens even with them uninstalled so am slightly at a loss. There may be remnents of both still floating around the OS of course.

Works fine for me with IE8 at home (admin privileges)

 

There's a Flash diagram thing on the page on that link... it could well be that.

 

Flash, Shockwave and the BBC website cause more issues for me at school than the whole of the rest of the internet. Good luck!

 

If your students have mandatory profiles, it may be worth:

- create a test user with admin privileges using the mandatory profile

- change ntuser.man to ntuser.dat in the profile

- logon as the test user and use the link above.

- does it work?

- logoff and let the profile be saved back to the server

- rename ntuser.dat to ntuser.man

 

If it did work, you will probably find that your pupils are OK now

Getting the same thing here. Can't help though as we have no control over Proxies etc.

Working fine here with full admin access, will test it with student access at some point.

 

As someone said possibly due to Flash or Shockwave

I get the same error in IE7 but not in Firefox 3.0.6. Updated Flash and Shockwave but still get the error in IE7.

This affects me and the students, we do not have mandatory profiles.

I still think this is flash, but it works just fine in IE8 at home on XP Pro with the same flash version (latest 10.0.45.2).

 

I deploy flash via GP and MSI, can those who are having problems confirm if they do the same?

 

The fact it is happening in some schools and not others does suggest to me it's not a filtering issue, but of course it may be some something to do with GP or redirections (we don't redirect temporary internet files).

 

I may try creating a local user on the machine at work and trying that.

I've just had a play with this at school using IE7 and both admin and non-admin accounts and it fails. Flash is at most recent update.

 

I'm starting to wonder if the BBC either needs an older version of flash for this site to work, or they've done something that means this page won't open in IE7.

 

My money's on the latter.

I've just upgraded to IE8 and the page loads successfully with no other changes. There is however an error-

Page passes strict XHTML validation so it does seem this is a IE bug and at this point I lose interest. I can't upgrade our site to IE8 as Serco don't support it yet.
