Problem with IE7 already... no supprise

Hey

WE have just started to roll out IE7 to a few machines to see how it runs.. but we have encounted a few problems already, the fact with tabbed browsing... you go to say hotmail and 9 times out of 10 and it will just sit and try to load the page but never does. Any one else had this problem?

At last I managed to get hands on with our Admin PC today - to sort the SIMS problem out I reported earlier in another topic http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4868 (thanks for the help on that one Phil Neal and Ric it worked a treat) - then I ran Windows update and discovered a total of 65 updates waiting - including the IE7 download. Mindful of earlire comments relating to IE7 and SIMS I left that particular update unopened!

@specktecky: Not sure if this is the best place to mention this but there is an ADM template knocking about on the web that allows you to prevent IE7 from downloading via Windows Update/Microsoft Update.

Even the reports? Which ones do you use? Be interesting to get some feedback from more people see if the advice can be substantiated. I'm not in a rush to find out just yet, I'll do a Siddhartha 'watch, wait and think'.

Where abouts are you going on the Fischer site, let me knwo where you go and I will see if I can recreate yor steps to check it.

Go and log in with your DFES number and password as usual. Generate a report e.g. KS4 Overview.

In IE6 you can export your report to Excel, don't seem it be able to do this is with IE7, also with IE7 you can't scroll down to the bottom of the page, it cuts it off.

Let me know what you find.

Not noticed any problems yet although I only rolled it out at the end of last week.

 

Worth noting was one comment that I received about how much the kids seem to love IE7. Not exactly sure why this is - probably because it's shiny and new - but if it engages the kids more it must be good!

Yes, the kids are able to change their home pages, but only within their own profiles.

 

As long as you use a GP to set the home page and delete cached copies of roaming profiles you will be ok.

Somebody just confirm for me the GPO setting to stop the first run is:

User config > Admin Templates > Windows Components >Internet Explorer > Prevent performance of First Run Customize Settings > Enabled > Go directly to home page.

 

Mine has had plenty of time filter through and still not working.

 

Any ideas?

Just checking out IE 7. To clear first run problem (Blue page with errors) on test PC (Vista), I had to add two registry keys as below,

 

HCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

"RunOnceComplete" = dword: 1

"RunOnceHasShown" = dword: 1

 

Also had Broadband Medic problem at home (NTL) - renamed PSAPI.dll to old then reboot or uninstal Medic program

IE7 Also breaks Dreamweaver 8 (unless patched) by dropping all site FTP and other details. Nice.

Worse.. IE7 broke my 3yr olds Spooky Spoon song and anything else on CBeebies in full-screen mode, although that may well be an interaction with a ton of pre-installed tat that turns up on a Dell.

I have IE7 at home and cbeebies full screen works fine. Must be something else. Bet you get sick of listening to the spooky spoon song eh? TeeHee. I'm sick to the teeth of the Alphabet March!!! Of course, I always listen to it one more time for my little'n.

Hi all.

 

I have just rolled out IE7 in one of our ICT suites. Just one thing that's bugging me, whenever a different student logs in, they have to set their personal settings each time. Is there anyway to default IE7's personal settings for everyone who logs on the machine?
