EDIT: Please be aware that this thread (as in unique thread/discussion) was not actually created by me. Posts 1-8 below were originally replies to a post in the Job section. Following Ric's reply at post 8 it appears the original thread was split, resulting in this unique thread being shown slightly out of context.

@IanT - Thanks. The jobs you find and post are always interesting and well worth reading. I am happy to see them here.

@Dos_Box - I'm not sure IanT's posts exactly fit with your recent rules thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/educational-jobs/50399-how-use-jobs-forum-please-read-first.html

Might it be worth a re-write? ...of are these posts now frowned upon?

@mb2k01:

:mad: pardon,

All I post now is the title of the job and link, no pay info etc.

I'm sure you have better things to do than start something else off.

Ian, I don't think it was a criticism per se, more that whilst your posts are undoubtedly perfectly acceptable for the forum, they don't in actual fact appear to comply with the forum rules to the letter.

I read mb2k01's post as meaning that the rules therefore need to be re-written in favour of including your posting 'style'.

I'm pretty sure mb2k01 wasn't "starting" anything.

Ian, I think he was trying to do the opposite, he was pointing out that the rules dont seemingly accomodate your obviously fine posts, thus pointing out that the rules need to be changed because posts like yours should be encouraged!.

Indeed Eldergeek [edit: and strawberry!]. Thank you for that.

Ian I didn't mean any offence at all - I was actually thanking you for the posts you make. I read pretty much every one!

My @Dos_Box line was referring to a new set of "rules" he posted in the Jobs forum and made in to a sticky. If we were to follow those rules to the letter of the law, then your posts would not be acceptable. Clearly that is silly, so I was suggesting to Dos_Box that he might want to adapt them to allow posts like yours.

Maybe there should be a minimum post count to be able to post a vacancy here, as it does say members may post vacancies that may be of interest, but there's no qualifying period of membership meaning someone could still sign up from a company and post a vacancy - even thou we know this breaks the rules, it would still consume moderators time to remove it. Minimum post count of say 10 posts before you could post in the vacancies forum would ensure it couldn't be posted in the first place.

Generally it's members who have been on here a while that will want to advertise posts at their schools, or who find the links to of interest jobs, so I don't think this would harm this section of the forum at all.

Just an idea.

And yes, IanT, please continue to post the links you do, I actually find them very helpful just to keep track of the saleries different posts are offering at the moment and read through the job descriptions sometimes - it basically saves me trawling the net to find them myself. :)

Mike.
