Folder Redirection Problems!!

Hi,

 

Can anyone help? I have recently installed a new file server and I am finding problems with folder redirection.

 

All servers except the new file server is 2003... the new one is server 2008.

 

I have set the Group Policy to point at the new location but for some reason the machines are not re-directing to this location. I have tried a GPUPDATE on the clients and have checked the permissions on the users directories.

What part of Folder Redirection are you using?

My Docs and Desktop

For Desktop Redirection I create a share called ICONS and use the following:

 

Basic Redirect everyone's folder to the same location
Redirect to the following location
\\SERVERNAME\Icons\Students\Desktop

 

For convenience (as an admin) of maintaining a controlled Desktop, you can then map the share as a network drive.

 

As for My Documents, I use redirect to the user's home directory. If home directories are not mapping correctly then you need to check permissions and of course that home directories are pointing to the right place:

 

\\SERVER1\Jbloggs$
\\SERVER2\Jbloggs$

I am now trying the option re-direct everyone to the same location - \\servername\staffhome$\%username%

Just to add... It's only on machines that the user have already logged on to.

Try deleting the users profile folder from "c:\Documents and Settings" and try again.

to use folder redirections on XP with server 2008 you need to make sure the clients have the optional clients side extensions installed for them to work

Whch the group policy? Are you changing the settings on a group policy object that applies to computers or users? Also, workstations often need a couple of reboots for a new policy to apply - turn all your workstations off and on a couple of times.

Still not working. Have also done gpupdate /force and still not changing direction location.

 

Like i said previously it works if the user is new to a machine. It just won't change on existing users!

Is 2008 server a DC or just a member server? If it is a DC, how many do you have in total and have you checked replication is working OK?

Is it a new redirection i.e. moving people who weren't redirected to a new folder?

 

Check the event logs for one of the affected users, see if Security permissions are stopping the folder being moved (had this recently) and also whether the redirection is able to create a My Documents folder under the new path.

 

Could be the SP3 folder redirection bug rearing its head... we ended up adding

 

md %userprofile%\My Documents (or something along those lines) to our logon script as the SP3 folder redirection failed unless the folder was there
