mattx Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Tried to get an appointment with our local RSPCA as my son's pet Gerbil is not well - HAPPY to give a donation but now they will only accept you if you are on benefits or low income. Which raises the question - if you are on benefits or low income just what the hell are you doing owning a pet that you can't afford to keep ? Seems to me these days the less you work or if you want to work at all, the MORE you get....

But thatcher didn't devise tax credits.....and it is the current administration which determine what the income thresholds are, although i'm sure tax credits in some cases replaced benefit that the tories had devised or paid out in big numbers. The workless and low income trap does indeed stretch back many years, even before the current shower.

The WHOLE system needs scrapping and starting again. Maybe I should sit in my first classs train carrage and work out where it's gone all wrong. Well I have worked it out - the MPS these days only represent themselves and NOT the people.

The kind of people who go to Eton and end up as an MP via the families that have always been in power... It is very difficult for a new party, or a new person, to get into politics - they are just marginalised as a pointless vote. How many people do you know who have said they support one party but won't vote for them because 'its a wasted vote'? I know loads of them who want to support the Lib Dems, or the Greens but won't. We need proper constitutional reform in this country to get ourselves out of this rut.

My missus was genuinely better off living as a single Mum than we both are now that I've moved in with my £25k (she's a TA @ ~£11k). ridiculous, where's the encouragement for us to go out and work hard and do things the right way (as a family in our own property) when I could quit my job, claim benefits and we'd end up with more disposable cash in our pockets each month? I know that in the long run it will be worth it, but me if it isn't depressing right now. Sodding politicians.

Ohh i think they've topped that one. £180 billion in borrowing this year alone. National debt at what is it now, £3trillion? If thats what labour manage during the good times i dont think we need them in power for the hard times ahead.

Don't look at the debt as something plainly bad - it was a necessary evil during a recession in order to stimulate the economy enough to prevent a depression. The times we are having would be a lot worse if the government hadn't done anything...

Said debt would also be much less if we'd saved responsibly during the boom years rather than, say, flogging off all our gold reserves and spending like mad to try and look good compared to the Tories. Yay politicking!

I took one of my rabbits to be spayed last week which cost me £72. Probably costs about £100 a year to get them vaccinated. I help at a small animal rescue and there are so many animals that get handed in as people realise they can't afford them, especially at the moment.

When I was at uni, me and my ex adopted rats from our local sanctuary as they couldn't look after them properly. We ended up, over 9 rats and 3 years, spending about £2k in vets bills, food, bedding etc...

He's about 2 and a half - at the moment he is up and down in stages - one min looking fine, the next not too good - I notice he has made a bed and gone back to sleep but is now up again !!
