jack0w Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 What are people using these days? MS Office or OpenOffice? I would be interested to hear any comments people have as we're currently looking to make a decision on whether to take out a schools agreement and include Office or simply switch to OpenOffice.
jack0w Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 How do you change a poll you've already setup? Can't see a button to do it
tmcd35 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I've said this else where - I'm pro-OpenOffice but that means nothing if the teachers point blank refuse to use it! We have Latest Open Office everywhere and MS Office XP on 2/3 of machines. We are currently evaluating if we should remove MS Office completely or stump up the cash for the lastest round of MS. The likelyhood at the moment is tha come June we'd buy into Office 2010. But there is still an outside chance that we might stick to our guns and remove MS Office completely over the summer. Time will tell.
featured_spectre Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 We use both at our school, for both staff and pupils. We also Han out open office to anyone that wants a copy so they can have it at home. We do that so that the students can use an office package at home.
Kitkatninja Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 We use MS Office, tried to make the move, but no-one like the idea/the program. I'm not too fussed... -ken
andy_nic Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 We use office 2007, a few 2003 versions due to the spec of some of the machines. However I have OpenOffice installed on my Netbook, it’s quite good. But most students & staff have word at home so can’t see us here ever moving over to OpenOffice anytime soon.
CyberNerd Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Coincidentally, OpenOffice 3.2 has just been release. Another free upgrade.... OpenOffice.org 3.2 New Features
dezt Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 We are using Office 2003, soon to upgrade to 2007, I tried to move accross to OpenOffice but the head of ICT refused point blank, because he was doing something in his lessons that used access, now he's not but we are still staying on MS Office, can't wait to see the SBM's face when I show her the costs for 350 licences
Elison Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 I use MS Office more often. but sometimes need both of them
p858snake Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 (edited) Personal View, Since I don't work anywhere: Microsoft Office * Word: I'm commonly using screenshots in my coursework and to display/line up them up nicely, I use tables with invisible borders, Where as OpenOffice doesn't seem to constrain the images with its tables. * Outlook: Outlook is the only common app my devices can use to sync all their details with. RabbieBurns Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 we use 2003 and also include openoffice on all machine images, will be moving to 2010 as soon as its out.
cookie_monster Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Open Office at home. Office 2003 in school we're looking into OO as an option rather than moving to Office 2007/2010. SIMS might trip that plan up though
SimpleSi Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 All teachers use Office 2003 on their laptops/smartboard computers - they can't cope with differences between OpenOffice and Office. 1/4 my schools use Office XP/2003 on curric machines - all others use OpenOffice. When Office used to cost around £60 - it was about 20% the cost of a computer - now its around £30 its about 15% of a netbook - so every 7 machines I can buy another netbook if the school doesn't use Office. regards Simon
k-strider Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Similar story here, we have both avalible but MS office is used more occasionally see a student use openoffice. though outlook is used as our mail client with exchange.
