jamesstoner Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Is this spam? Nope, Basically i am fed up with the wireless on these N130's and made a call to them. More people that ring in hopefully more will be done. The guy from Samsung did say that there were other calls. J
SimpleSi Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Will do so Monday - what is that number BTW? regards Simon
john Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Will do so Monday - what is that number BTW? regards Simon Google seems to say its the Samsung Support Centre
SimpleSi Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 Well - rang up and recommended to update bios and chipset drivers as well. So will give that a go as you have to go through their hoops - you never know - it might actually work. Unfortunatley - twice - just before I was going to get a ref number - the phone line dropped - I can accept once as unfortunate - but twice??? (At least I got a customer ref number on the 2nd call!) Also - has to explain that the ones I have have realtek wireless and not atheros - he didn't believe me until he'd gone away and "checked witha supervisor" What a game Unlike james - no sign of any recognition of an issue regards Simon
SimpleSi Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Hows this for a laugh. back in the school taoday -started downloading all the drivers to do a omcplete replacement and noticed that Mr Samsung had put out a new version of the wireless drivers on 16March!!! You'd think some one would have told the tech support this on Monday when I rang them up!!! Latest version is 1680.4.0307.2010 I'm going to try this out before trying the global replacement they suggested! regards Simon

There are some thats the exception where you actually get someone who know what they are talking about but often you get some pleb who's as useful as a chocolate tea pot (as my boss would say). Hope they new set of drivers works.
SimpleSi Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Right - the new drivers come with one of those wishy washy wireless config thingies - so I'm installing that as well and we'll see what happens. Still have no adjustment of roaming aggresssiveness or anything but fingers crossed! regards Simon
SimpleSi Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 Well - looks good but I'm relucant to do a full chicken count yet! No reports of open file connections being lost - some reports of the class folders not being available at startup (I run a statrtup script that maps P: drive to a shared class folder at startup so this might be due to slow network connections - I'm going to try and simulate this one as its easy to check jsut by switching them all on at the same time) @James - have you tried the new ones yet - have they helped you? regards Simon
SimpleSi Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 Well - there's still something not right I was in at the school all day yesterday using the netbooks to timelapse record the Year3/4s buliding a viking longboat. All went well in the morning - everything working but in the afternoon I really struggled to copy 500MB size files from the netbooks to the server - would fall over half way through - ended up using a pendrive Im def going to have to rig up a Buffalo AP and try that out. Hopefully, the large file transfer failure is repeatable. regards Simon

SimpleSi Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 Simon have you tried running a speed on the ZD after it failed? Speed?
White_Fi Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Speed? Let me start again! Have you tried running a speed TEST from the ZD after the issue occurs?
SimpleSi Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 Sorry Stuart - my brains obviuosly got worse over Easter (BTW I didn't do anything when it failed on me - I had 1 hour to get the videos off the netbooks and onto my pendrive before they closed the school on me ) a speed TEST from the ZD How do you do a speed test with the ZD? regards Simon

A new window will appear. Hit Start. Hit Ok on the popup box. Select MAC Intel or Windows. Run the SpeedFlex.exe and hit start again.
SimpleSi Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 Ta for info - I'll certainly give it a go when next in - as I said - i hope the large file transfer failure is repeatable as it'll give us something real to get a grip on regards Simon PS I'm moving to 2 session's/week after easter (Tue/Thurs pm) and its going to be my no 1 priority - on top of fixing printers/installing b7*&%&y CrazyTalk/moving all computers to DHCP/adding extra storage to w2k3 server and moving all user files off the NAS box/teaching( I mean helping ) the teachers use cross-curricular ICT for the new creative curriculum
nicholab Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Have you check if there is a power save setting defined in the drive? This can cause problems. 1
SimpleSi Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 The settings on these Realteks is very sparse. Got 802.11d - Disable/Enable - Disabled Beacon Interval - 100 PSPXlinkMode - Disable/Enable - Disabled Wireless Mode 802.11b/802.11b/g 802b/g/n - set to 80211b/g/n and thats it From earlier in the thread regards Simon
ServersPlus Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 If you bring the wireless controller up in the device manager you can access the power saving option in the 'Power Management' tab. Maybe this is what nicholab is referring to. I'm not sure Windows would cut the power to the wireless card when it was connected to a network though, even if it wasn't 'in use'. Could be that it's just reducing power to the point it falls out of range though? HTH 1
martinmct Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I was mighty relieved to come across this thread last week as it echoed exactly the same issues I am having with 60 new N130's. Intermittant wireless dropouts resulting in pupils unable to save work to a server at the end - and during - a session of use. To cut a long story short, I have applied the latest driver issued by Samsung for the Realtek Wireless device on one of the PC's and await developments at the school. Even that wasn't without extra work, I like to set up wireless networks with a Hidden SSID, this had worked perfectly with the original driver, but the updated driver was having none of it. I have now 'unhidden' my SSID in order for this new driver to work - rest assured I still have WPA security in place, I was worried that I may have to 'loosen' that a little but fortunately not. Simon - I see no new posts since 8th April - how have things gone for you since then??? I will be updating the driver on a few more of the N130's next week and keeping my fingers firmly crossed. Thanks to all, Martin
SimpleSi Posted April 29, 2010 Author Posted April 29, 2010 Ok - reluctantly maybe its time to say the issue has been fixed! (Awaits the wrath of the IT Gods vengance) No-one (apart from me and my large file transfers (which I've not been able to repeat) ) has mentioned any problems (apart from the odd random ones you get) I might even re-enable the security regards Simon PS Stuart - if you read this - close the ticket
ionharker Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I'm sorry for re-opening this case, but what did you finally do for fixing the problem? I've read all post of five pages and still not sure what you did... We've got just the same problem with 100 Toshiba netbooks, and I think that i've tried everything... Thanks in advance!
SimpleSi Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Ancient history for me now I'm afraid ,just lived with the issues and as the ruckus APS die I replace them with unifi as my controller is no longer spotted supported I didn't have a good experience with them Simon 1
