WII cables - Composite v component

OK - not entirely work related but maybe somone can help.

 

Would there be an appreciable improvement in swapping the standard composite/SCART WII cable with

a component (ie 5 phono plug type) cable.

 

The TV supports 'everything' - I realise WIIs don't support HDTV, but is this intermediate level (EHTV)

worth bothering about....

 

Also the price of component cables seems to vary enormously - from a couple of quid on Ebay to 10s of quids - is a cable a cable - or do you get what you pay for, for a given length...

You'll see a massive improvement in picture quality at 480p over the supplied composite cable. Less so over an RGB scart connection.

 

I wouldn't bother with the official lead - it's too expensive. Most third-party ones should be fine.

Will the difference really be that much better though? The colour depth and contrast ratio will probably be improved, but this is a Wii we're talking about, they're not known for their outstanding graphics performance. I'd recommend trying one out before you buy, unless you pick one up for a couple of quid then it's worth doing it out of curiosity anyway.

 

BTW, this thread had a lot of advice on cable : price ratio (I know it's HDMI, but the thread gets a bit more general toward the end)

Yep, Component will be better than your scart connection.

 

I thought i found one on offer for you, but it's was a component cable for an banana ipod/itouch etc at PoundLand. oh they were a £1 each if you were going to ask

You see a big improvement when playing Maio Kart - thats for sure !!

Also bear in mind that the component cable will give better sound as well...

 

If you're TV is a LCD/HD TV, then anything SCART will look pretty ropey, a component lead will make the wii look very sharp in comparison. However, don't expect the jump you get from changing something like a PS3 from composite to component.

I can only speak from experience with the Xbox, but HDMI all the way, picture quality is superb. From composite to HDMI, the difference is incredible, from component to HDMI you notice better contrast ratio, seemingly deeper colours and everything just seems a little moe true to life: they way HD should be

No problem - I've been playing with my new toy this week. I got a Sumvision Cyclone MKV 1080p HD Media Player

Which is a stunning bit of kit for the price. My Hi Def movies have new lease of life. I stuck in a SATA drive and dumped a load of stuff on it, Photos, MP3s already and it was easy to hook up to my network......And talking of the Wii, I think its about time I blew the dust off Blazing Angels and challenged my son to a dog fight.....

YES!, there's a MASSIVE difference IMO between the composite cable that comes with the Wii and a component cable. The picture is so much sharper than the blurry composite one.
