Recomend someone for laptop repairs

ive got a couple of laptops that need repairin,

just wondering if any of you could recomend any compaies that you might have used in the past.

I DIY HDDs, memory, batteries and anything else easy to get at. Beyond that I haven't found it cost effective. Simpler and cheaper to get a new one.

What make/model and what's wrong with them?

 

Getting the parts is the hard bit to do DIY on anything other than Geoff said.

 

I've tried a couple of LCD repair companies in the past but none of them were able to get a panel for the Acer I needed repairing.

 

Keyboards are another part that's easy enough to do yourself.

I went with http://www.uklaptoprepairs.co.uk/ in the end for my power connector repairs and was very pleased with the work they did & service received. As above - you can DIY for HD/keyboards no problem if you can source parts.

They have asked to advertise with us. As soon as the module is finished we can host their details on the site should they wish to go ahead wit the offer.

ill give uklaptoprepairs a try and see what happens.

not sure what make they are they were purchased before i started (random local supplier) 1 of them keep overheating and shutting down and the others got a faulty cddrive.

had a quick go at trying to take it apart but haven't got the time, to do it.

id rather pay someone that mess it up myself.

I'm glad I am not the only one who feels this way. I get that sinking feeling each time a staff member comes to me with a laptop that has faulty hardware such as the mobo, fans, power connectors etc. I find it difficult to tell them that laptops are not PCs and were not designed to be taken apart and have components such as the above replaced with the ease that PCs were. As people have said previously, getting hold of the correct components is a nightmare.

the only ones ive done in the past are some toshibas that we had at our old school. we had about 70 of them, they were about 3-4 yrs old, 1 or 2 of them we completely dead ie drinks spilt over them. so i decided to take one apart.

after that i didn't mind swapping a few screens around and taking the hard drives out but that was about it.
