john Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Right can we have all the phone numbers of our NZ and Auz friends (we will get you for not getting out of bed sat morning) Russ I phoned all our Auz and NZ members Russ off his phone to say Hi and welcome to Edugeek like we were doing in person at BETT As for Data, well I needed another copy of Win 7 for my laptop so 3GB ISO on it..... hehe
featured_spectre Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I have convinced my school to allow me to make a SRIAB. I have roughly a £2000 in April / May time when our budget comes in. They agree that its ideal to have a backup. Only in my instance, I will be having a 6U case, 2x 1U servers (1 for curriculum, 1 for admin), a ruckus zone director with 1 AP drilled to the case, and a 24 port HP Procurve switch with PoE.
Dos_Box Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 You could also fit in a 4TB 1u SAN with those funds! Very handy for dumping those user areas on to in the event of an emergency, using the EduMove tool of course And you can use the SAN as network backup repository!
featured_spectre Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I intend on doing a duplicate of the harddrives of our 2 servers, and then running backups once a week and put the back ups on the portable servers. We have no SANs working here, due to the fact we are a small middle school so there is no need. Plus this way, if we ever have a fire again, we can pick up the cab and run out with all of our data intact!
featured_spectre Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Just a question, what depth is your cabinet and what depth your server?
Ric_ Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 The 8u case we used can be seen at Gator Cases is the manufacturer of musical instrument and audio visual cases - 8U Audio Rack; Rolling (GRR-8L) and is approx. 480mm deep. The case we used has vanished off the XCase website for some reason Personally, I would stick to the 8u rack-case and use 2u cases if you plan to build one. The 2u cases are much quiter and I know the pain and frustration that was involved in fitting the components together in the case we used, never mind one half the size! If you wanted a cheap SAN in there, you could use a 2u case filled with disks and run OpenFiler off a compact flash card. For basic web filtering you could use a 1u mini-ITX box runnning Smoothwall Express.
featured_spectre Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 thanks! This is coming in handy, as I have 3 companies tendering the builds
