Little-Miss Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 Can anyone find a photo of the bottom of the Sanyo PLC-XW200? or look at the one in the manual and compare it to the ones for the PLC-XU41 and the PLC-SU50? I cant decide whether they will fit on our brackets. I dont like the idea of the filter being on the bottom as well though.. Thanks...
AskTheDoc Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Ask how difficult it is to get at the filter to clean it. Most of ours are dead easy to get to from a chair but some need a ladder. It takes me as long to clean 6 of these as the 20+ easy ones. Hi Laserblazer Just to put the record straight for you. All DLP projectors including the new Casio LED/laser products do not actually have filters like LCD projectors. One of the selling points of the Casio product a part from the fact that it is the world's first Mercury Free projector for Education is that it is also completely maintenance free. (i.e. No lamp or filter maintenance or replacement) In Fact all projectors that are based on DLP technology do not actually require filters. They are all sealed units. The Casio also has a 2-1 zoom lens which is pretty unique and answers your question in this thread. The benefit of this is that you can take down virtual any projector (except Super short throw of course and know that the Casio will fit with the original ceiling pole. You will still have to replace the bracket and get an engineer to install though but it will be a lot less hassle and a lot less mess and disruption. Casio say the unit will last for 20,000 hours without any deterioration of image quality. However they will warranty it for 6,000 and 3 years for normal business or 10,000 and 5 years for Education. Obviously technology will catch up or change or other parts like power supplies or components may fail like any projector. If you require a short throw projector or budget is a concern then obvious you may well be better looking at a Sanyo, Hitachi or Epson. For Super short throw then Hitachi or Epson will be the best choices. Enjoy and good luck. The Doc

Hi The XU41 and the SU50 are much bigger chassis' than the XW200 so you would need a new mounting bracket. They will not fit. Edited January 28, 2010 by AskTheDoc 1
enjay Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Why are people using projector-specific mounting brackets and not universal ones? Our early installations were in such things, and it cost us silly money to change these when we got new projectors - universal ones are much better, IMO.
AskTheDoc Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 You are quite right, universal brackets are a lot cheaper to manufacturer which is why you can normally pick them up for competitive pricing. I would recommend using a reputable brand and a good installation company though.

Pluto SecurPlate Do these fit onto Unicol poles, as we already have these in pretty all classrooms. We're looking at installing these new Casio projectors over the next couple of years. If we can find a bracket that will fit the Casio projector and Unicol pole then we can do most, if not all, of the installation ourselves. Especially with the generous throwing distances the Casio projectors offer...

The BTech part number is BT899 and fits directly on to the Unicol pole. I have heard that Chief may be launched one at ISE Amsterdam next week. ATD 1

They have security fixings so it makes life that bit harder for people trying to steal the projector. They have the ability to tilt up to 30 degrees so that IWB’s can be fitted at low levels and still keep projectors at a high level. Universal projector plate and can also be retro fitted to any existing Unicol pole. Also very well priced. 1

Educare_AV Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Another thing to think about, is to ensure that the new projectors have the lens on the same side as the old projector. Otherwise you will not get a square image.

You should be able to use a universal mount if it is standard 50mm or matches the pole you have used. You will need to keep in mind however that the casio's use M3 screws to fix to a ceiling mount not the standard M6 and as such you need to ensure you have the correct screws and probably washers etc to fit to the plate.

DarrenC Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Oh right, If you look through the thread there are already unicol mounts in situ and historically unicol have not used standard dimension poles to stop people using bog standard universal mounts on them. I quite agree though unicol are expensive.
