Hi

I've had a go at installing Spiceworks a few times now (on different machines), only to have the same problem.

When the software finishes installing...I leave the box checked to allow the software to start automatically there and then.

A splash screen appears with a status bar along the bottom. The bar gets a little bit of the way across...and then stops. It’s at this point that it says on the splash screen the information about the software (i.e. the server its running on...and the communication port)

This is as far as it gets...and I’m stumped. There seems to be no warnings/errors in our AV software.

I've so far tried the install on a two different 2003 servers, and my laptop (XP)

Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?

Have you tried accessing it through the browser? What happens?

Completely exit Spiceworks and then launch it again and see what happens. I've experienced what you're describing a few times.

Yeah i've tried it through the browser on another computer (and the local host)

Tried doing a restart too :(

Does it run through IIS? or its own web server software.

Update

I've installed the software on a brand new and clean install of XP (not on a domain)...and i still get the same problem.

Any more ideas from anyone?

Having recently done this myself with the same issues, some suggestions:

Is Spiceworks running as a service on the server it's installed on?

Double click the desktop icon on the server. If it's installed OK then it should launch in a browser.

Assuming that's OK. Right click the sys tray icon and select "Run as a service"

On a workstation that can "see" the server, open a browser and type in the address of the server, along with the port. If you haven't changed anything on the install it should be e.g. 10.66.33.2:9675 (but your server IP)

That should take you to the Spiceworks login screen.
